Darin was a very special and talented entertainer. He was a Grammy award winning singer ('Mack The Knife'), a respected member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ('Dream Lover', 'Splish Splash', 'If I Were A Carpenter') a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a successful record producer, an Oscar nominated actor and a strong supporter of the American Heart Association. Bobby was married to actress Sandra Dee from 1960-1967. They had one son, Dodd, born in December 1961. As a result of complications from a rheumatic heart, Bobby's life was tragically cut short in 1973.
Darin's mother, Vanina Cassotto, had given birth to him when she was 16, and as a result, her parents raised Darin as though he were their son while Vanina was presented off as his elder sister. Darin did not learn the truth about his parentage until he was 32.

LOST LOVE
Bobby Darin Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
the love to make me strong.
I left the love I needed,
how could I be so wrong?
If I were only granted
the right to start anew,
Lost love behind me
true love won't find me
because I'm so lost.
For all the years I wasted
and all mistakes I made
for all the loves I tasted
how dearly I have paid.
If I could be forgiven,
for all the pain I caused?
Too late,
my fate is lost.
Lost love behind me
true love won't find me
because I'm so lost.
In Bobby Darin’s song Lost Love, the singer is regretfully reflecting on the love he has lost and the mistakes he has made that have led to his current situation. The first two lines express how vital this love was for him - it was the very thing that made him strong. However, he goes on to reveal that he left this love behind, and now he feels completely lost without it. He can’t believe that he could have been so foolish to abandon this source of strength and security.
The third stanza shows the singer acknowledging his mistakes and expressing a desire to start afresh, but he knows that his lost love will never return to him. He laments how his past actions have caused him to be without any real love in his present. This is emphasized through the repetition in the chorus line "lost love behind me, true love won't find me, because I'm so lost".
The final stanza reveals that the singer is fully aware of the price he has paid for his actions. He wishes he could be forgiven for causing pain to others, but he knows it is too late for him. The song ends on a somber note, with the recognition that the singer’s fate is now sealed as someone who has lost love and may never find it again.

One heck of a entertainer. A life cut way to soon. RIP Mr. Darin. Remember one thing he was one of the first Emmy winners, in the late 50s. When the emmys started.
