Look At Me
Bobby Darin Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Look at me
This at least you owe me
Just a glance to show me
That you really care

Look at me
Pride is taken from me
And tears just don't become me
But they're always there

Just one look
One look will do
That's all it took
To make me fall in love with you

Please turn around
I'll be looking for you
Waiting to adore you
Baby, look at me

Just one look
One look will do
That's all it took
To make me fall in love with you

So turn around
I'll be looking for you

Waiting to adore you
Baby, look at me

Overall Meaning

In Bobby Darin's song "Look at Me," the lyrics express the feeling of longing and desperation for the attention and affection of someone who is significant to the singer. The singer pleads the person to look at him/her to prove that he/she cares. The singer believes that they are owed at least that much and the refusal to give a glance causes pain and removes any pride. The singer even cries, which they believe doesn't suit them, but it's just a natural result of being disregarded.

The chorus depicts that a single look was all it took for the singer to fall in love with that person. The lyrics suggest that when someone is in love or infatuated with someone, it doesn't take much for that person to fall deeper. The singer is still hopeful for a chance, asking the person to turn around because the singer will be there waiting to adore them. The song's tone is sentimental and heart-breaking.

In the song, the singer thinks that the person owes them at least a glance, which shows how much the singer really cares for that person. It's interesting to note that the song's lyrics were written by Don Kirshner, the founder of the songwriting team The Brill Building. The Brill Building was a legendary music publishing house in New York City, where numerous famous songwriters created some of America's most popular music in the 1960s, including Carole King, Neil Sedaka, and Burt Bacharach. Bobby Darin recorded "Look At Me" in 1962, and it became a hit in the United States and the UK.

One heck of a entertainer. A life cut way to soon. RIP Mr. Darin. Remember one thing he was one of the first Emmy winners, in the late 50s. When the emmys started.
