Darin was a very special and talented entertainer. He was a Grammy award winning singer ('Mack The Knife'), a respected member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ('Dream Lover', 'Splish Splash', 'If I Were A Carpenter') a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a successful record producer, an Oscar nominated actor and a strong supporter of the American Heart Association. Bobby was married to actress Sandra Dee from 1960-1967. They had one son, Dodd, born in December 1961. As a result of complications from a rheumatic heart, Bobby's life was tragically cut short in 1973.
Darin's mother, Vanina Cassotto, had given birth to him when she was 16, and as a result, her parents raised Darin as though he were their son while Vanina was presented off as his elder sister. Darin did not learn the truth about his parentage until he was 32.

While you are sleepin', am I sleepin' too?
Well, I'm just sittin' here lovin' you
Close my eyes and lovin' you
I'm just sittin' back, sittin' here lovin' you
I have been wond'rin' just what I would do
If I weren't sleepin', had I not found you
Walkin' on the avenue, findin' you
Well, I'm just sittin' back, sittin' here lovin' you
Now the reason that you never see me runnin' 'round
Fingers on my forehead couldn't calm me down
She can even get me up on my feet
When I've got to take care of some business on the street
I have been walkin' all my streets alone
I would keep walkin' to keep from going home
I couldn't quite barely conceive of you
Now I can't conceive of ever leavin' you
'Cause I'm just sittin' back, sittin' here lovin' you
I have been walkin' all my streets alone
I would keep walkin' to keep from going home
I couldn't quite barely conceive of you
Now I can't conceive of ever leavin' you
'Cause I'm just sittin' back, sittin' here lovin' you
I'm just sittin' back, sittin' here lovin' you
I'm just sittin' back, sittin' here lovin' you

Been trying to find this, stumbled upon it tonight. Fantastic song, I love Bobby's vocals in the song too. Man really knew how to treat a song with no two songs alike in sound, always giving his fans just what they wanted…. Bobby being the perfectionist always delivered wonderful gems like this. Guy's a unique master genius with ability to change his vocal styles to suite a song. Bobby did in his 37 year short life what others of his era couldn't do in their life time. There will never be another Bobby Darin or the likes of him, they threw away the mould after he was born. You are a Prince of humanity Bobby……. RIP FOREVER MORE !!!!!!!!

My goodness. All this time I thought Dean Martin sang this great song. So sad that Bobby Darin died of heart failure after surgery when he was only 37.

My husband absolutely loved this song but I could not find it on any of his album's. We heard it on the 60's channel and it took me weeks to find it. I never thought about looking for it on you tube. Then one day I realized it was put out as a single. Maybe someone can find it on an album but I could not.

Just found out it WAS released on 'If I were a Carpenter' album. I guess I never knew because when I looked for it on itunes, this album was not listed.

This song was actually written by John Sebastian of The Lovin' Spoonful. Bobby's version is better.
