Mack the Knife
Bobby Darin Lyrics

Oh, the shark, babe, has such teeth, dear
And it shows them pearly white
Just a jackknife has old MacHeath, babe
And he keeps it, ah, out of sight
You know when that shark bites with his teeth, babe
Scarlet billows start to spread
Fancy gloves, oh, wears old MacHeath, babe
So there's never, never a trace of red

Now on the sidewalk, huh, huh, whoo sunny morning, un huh
Lies a body just oozin' life, eek
And someone's sneakin' 'round the corner
Could that someone be Mack the Knife?

There's a tugboat, huh, huh, down by the river don'tcha know
Where a cement bag's just a-drooppin' on down
Oh, that cement is just, it's there for the weight, dear
Five'll get ya ten, old Macky's back in town
Now did ya hear 'bout Louie Miller? He disappeared, babe
After drawin' out all his hard-earned cash
And now MacHeath spends just like a sailor
Could it be our boy's done somethin' rash?

Now Jenny Diver, ho, ho, yeah, Sukey Tawdry
Ooh, Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown
Oh, the line forms on the right, babe
Now that Macky's back in town

I said Jenny Diver, whoa, Sukey Tawdry
Look out to Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown
Yes, that line forms on the right, babe
Now that Macky's back in town
Look out, old Macky's back

@BERN2002 Great technique in recordings, live often out of tune; this never happened to Darin, just listen to his live recordings. Sinatra concert in Italy September 27, 1986, as he did when singing live, he was out of tune, but everyone applauded only because he was called Sinatra, the most overrated balloon ever; I went away nauseated. Darin could sing any song of any musical genre, he could teach Sinatra the technique. Sinatra's personal and artistic life went hand in hand, he had the part that earned him the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor thanks to certain pressures ... keep your Sinatra, for me Darin forever the greatest of all and of all the times ... you know I am one who is not satisfied so I choose the unsurpassed Darin. For your information, I listen to the major American singers since I was born, thanks to my father who heard Sinatra when he was younger and was out of place live. If you want I give you my personal ranking:
1. BOBBY DARIN
2. SAMMY DAVIS JR
3. NAT KING COLE
4. BING CROSBY
5. RAY CHARLES
6. DEAN MARTIN
7. PERRY COMO
8. EDDIE FISHER
9. PAT BOONE
10. ANDY WILLIAMS
11. ROBERT GOULET
12. VIC DAMONE
13. T0NY BENNET
I'm sorry but Sinatra is not there. If you want to talk about technique: Darin was a tenor and with his incredible voice he did what he wanted; Sinatra was more baritone than tenor, usually coming up to the Fa, not to the La or Si.

+Roger Huff Darin always suffered poor health since he was young, specially with his heart, when he was in his mid 30s he went for a delicate operation to fix something in his heart and he never made it out of the operating room. similar thing happened to Ted Cassidy the big guy that played lurch in the Addams family.
