Everybody's going out and having fun
I'm just a fool for staying home and having none
I can't get over how she set me free
Oh lonesome me

A bad mistake I'm making bout just hanging round
I know that I should have some fun an paint the town
A love sick fool that's blind and just can't see
Oh lonesome me

I'll bet she's not like me
She's out an fancy free
Flirting with the boys with all her charms
But I still love her so
And brother don't you know
I'd welcome her right back here in my arms

Well there must be some way
I can lose these lonesome blue
Forget about the past and find somebody new
I've thought of everything from A to Z
Oh lonesome me

(guitar solo) (ba-de-op-bop-bop)
(ba-de-op-bop-bop)
(Oh lonesome me)

Well I bet she's not like me
She's out and fancy free
Flirting with the boys with all her charms
But I still love her so
And brother don't you know
I'd welcome her right back into my arms

Well there must be some way
I can lose these lonesome blues
Forget about the past and find somebody new
I've thought of everything from A to Z

Overall Meaning

In "Oh Lonesome Me," Bobby Darin sings about feeling alone and pining for a girl who has left him. He is envious of others who are out having fun, while he is stuck at home wallowing in his sadness. Darin recognizes that he is making a mistake by not getting out and enjoying life, but he cannot seem to break free from his despair. He imagines his ex-girlfriend as being carefree, out and about, and flirting with other boys, while he remains tethered to her memory. He knows he should move on and find someone new, but he is unable to shake off his loneliness.

The song highlights the theme of heartbreak and the struggle to move on after a failed relationship. Darin's lyrics and melody convey a deep sense of longing and melancholy, while also acknowledging the need to find a way to move forward. The song also captures the idea that sometimes, despite our best efforts to let go, we cannot help but want what we have lost.

This is one of those rare instances where I disagree with the production of something Bobby did in the studio. I Would have preferred for this to have been stripped back with just the piano, drums, bass. and a little acoustic guitar. The brass section just smothers it imo, just too over the top.
