Darin was a very special and talented entertainer. He was a Grammy award winning singer ('Mack The Knife'), a respected member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ('Dream Lover', 'Splish Splash', 'If I Were A Carpenter') a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a successful record producer, an Oscar nominated actor and a strong supporter of the American Heart Association. Bobby was married to actress Sandra Dee from 1960-1967. They had one son, Dodd, born in December 1961. As a result of complications from a rheumatic heart, Bobby's life was tragically cut short in 1973.
Darin's mother, Vanina Cassotto, had given birth to him when she was 16, and as a result, her parents raised Darin as though he were their son while Vanina was presented off as his elder sister. Darin did not learn the truth about his parentage until he was 32.

Pitty Miss Kitty
Bobby Darin Lyrics

Have a little mercy on me
Well pity, pity, pity, Miss Kitty
Won't you set my poor heart free?
You know Johnny B. Goode and Zorro, too
Can't love you any more than I do.
Pity, pity, pity, Miss Kitty
Well-a well-a well-a
Pity, pity, pity, Miss Kitty
I even paid your dues
Be my kewpie doll, return to me
We'll be as happy as we can be.
Won't you wear my ring around your neck
We'll be walkin' down the aisle, never lookin' back
For your precious love I'd swim the sea
I'd give up Skinny Minnie and her sister Jennie Lee.
Well pity, pity, pity, Miss Kitty
How long are you gonna make me wait?
Well-a well-a well-a
Pity, pity, pity Miss Kitty
All you gotta do is name the day
I'm in endless sleep, oh lonesome me
Come on Kitty, have pity on me.
Oh, won't you wear my ring around your neck
We'll be walkin' down the aisle, never lookin' back
For your precious love I'd swim the sea
I'd give up Skinny Minnie and her sister Jennie Lee.
Well pity, pity, pity, Miss Kitty
How long are you gonna make me wait?
Well-a well-a well-a
Pity, pity, pity Miss Kitty
All you gotta do is name the day
I'm in endless sleep, oh lonesome me
Come on Kitty, have pity on me.
Come on Kitty have pity on me
Come on Kitty have pity on me
Come on Kitty have pity on me
In this song, Bobby Darin pleads with Miss Kitty to have pity on him and return his love. He offers her gifts, such as new shoes and payment of her dues, in hopes of winning her back. He compares his love for her to that of Johnny B. Goode and Zorro, implying that his love is just as great as theirs. He even offers to give up other women, like Skinny Minnie and her sister Jennie Lee, to prove his devotion to Miss Kitty.
The repeated use of the word "pity" throughout the song emphasizes Bobby Darin's desperate plea for Miss Kitty's affection. He asks Miss Kitty to wear his ring as a symbol of their love and suggests that they will walk down the aisle together. The line "I'm in endless sleep, oh lonesome me" shows the depth of Bobby Darin's loneliness and his intense desire to be with Miss Kitty.
Overall, the song is a classic example of a love song that borders on pleading desperation. It showcases Bobby Darin's smooth, charming vocal style and his ability to convey intense emotion through his music.
