Darin was a very special and talented entertainer. He was a Grammy award winning singer ('Mack The Knife'), a respected member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ('Dream Lover', 'Splish Splash', 'If I Were A Carpenter') a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a successful record producer, an Oscar nominated actor and a strong supporter of the American Heart Association. Bobby was married to actress Sandra Dee from 1960-1967. They had one son, Dodd, born in December 1961. As a result of complications from a rheumatic heart, Bobby's life was tragically cut short in 1973.
Darin's mother, Vanina Cassotto, had given birth to him when she was 16, and as a result, her parents raised Darin as though he were their son while Vanina was presented off as his elder sister. Darin did not learn the truth about his parentage until he was 32.

Have a little mercy on me
Well pity, pity, pity, Miss Kitty
Won't you set my poor heart free?
You know Johnny B. Goode and Zorro, too
Can't love you any more than I do.
Pity, pity, pity, Miss Kitty
Well-a well-a well-a
Pity, pity, pity, Miss Kitty
I even paid your dues
Be my kewpie doll, return to me
We'll be as happy as we can be.
Won't you wear my ring around your neck
We'll be walkin' down the aisle, never lookin' back
For your precious love I'd swim the sea
I'd give up Skinny Minnie and her sister Jennie Lee.
Well pity, pity, pity, Miss Kitty
How long are you gonna make me wait?
Well-a well-a well-a
Pity, pity, pity Miss Kitty
All you gotta do is name the day
I'm in endless sleep, oh lonesome me
Come on Kitty, have pity on me.
Oh, won't you wear my ring around your neck
We'll be walkin' down the aisle, never lookin' back
For your precious love I'd swim the sea
I'd give up Skinny Minnie and her sister Jennie Lee.
Well pity, pity, pity, Miss Kitty
How long are you gonna make me wait?
Well-a well-a well-a
Pity, pity, pity Miss Kitty
All you gotta do is name the day
I'm in endless sleep, oh lonesome me
Come on Kitty, have pity on me.
Come on Kitty have pity on me
Come on Kitty have pity on me
Come on Kitty have pity on me
The song "Pity Miss Kitty" by Bobby Darin is a pleading love song directed towards a woman named Miss Kitty. Throughout the song, the singer begs Miss Kitty to have pity on him and set his poor heart free. He tells her that he loves her more than Johnny B. Goode and Zorro, and that he has even bought her new shoes and paid her dues. He suggests that they should be together and that he would give up any other woman for her, even mentioning Skinny Minnie and Jennie Lee.
However, Miss Kitty seems to be playing hard to get, and the singer asks her how long she is going to make him wait. He desperately asks her to wear his ring around her neck and promises to love her forever. The song ends with the singer again pleading with Miss Kitty to have pity on him.
Overall, the song portrays a man hopelessly in love and willing to do anything to win over the object of his affection, Miss Kitty.
