Darin was a very special and talented entertainer. He was a Grammy award winning singer ('Mack The Knife'), a respected member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ('Dream Lover', 'Splish Splash', 'If I Were A Carpenter') a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a successful record producer, an Oscar nominated actor and a strong supporter of the American Heart Association. Bobby was married to actress Sandra Dee from 1960-1967. They had one son, Dodd, born in December 1961. As a result of complications from a rheumatic heart, Bobby's life was tragically cut short in 1973.
Darin's mother, Vanina Cassotto, had given birth to him when she was 16, and as a result, her parents raised Darin as though he were their son while Vanina was presented off as his elder sister. Darin did not learn the truth about his parentage until he was 32.

Reason To Believe
Bobby Darin Lyrics

I'd find a way to believe that it's all true
Knowing that you lied straight faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe
Someone like you makes it hard to live
Without somebody else
Someone like you makes it easy to give
Never thinking of myself
I'd find a way to leave the past behind
Knowing that you lied straight faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe
Someone like you makes it hard to live
Without somebody else
Someone like you makes it easy to give
Never thinking of myself
If I gave you time to change my mind
I'd find a way to leave the past behind
Knowing that you lied straight faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe
Still I look to find a reason to believe
Still I look to find a reason to believe
Bobby Darin's "Reason To Believe" is a love song that deals with trust, heartbreak, and the struggle to move on. The song is about a broken relationship, and the singer is trying to find a reason to believe that the love is true despite being lied to. He is struggling with his own emotions, as he knows that the person he loves has lied to him, but at the same time, he cannot let go of his own feelings. The song's lyrics are a poignant expression of the emotional turmoil that comes with a failed relationship.
The song begins with the singer admitting that if he listened long enough to his lover, he could find a reason to believe that everything they had together was true. However, he acknowledges that she has lied to him, and he has shed tears while she remained emotionless. Despite the pain she caused, he still looks for a reason to believe that their love is real. He thinks about how hard it is to live without her because someone like her makes it hard to be alone. But, at the same time, someone like her makes it easy for him to give everything he has to her without thinking of himself.
The singer is ready to let go of the past if his lover can give him a reason to believe that she has changed. However, he knows that she lied to him, and he does not want to get hurt again. Despite her betrayal, he still cannot let go of his feelings, and he looks for a reason to believe that their love can prevail. The song is a powerful expression of the human heart's struggle to deal with pain and the hope to find a reason to believe that the love one cherishes is true.

Tim Hardin, Karen Carpenter, Rod Stewart, Karen Dalton--all good. But Darin's version is the best.

Bobby Darin sang a number of Tim Hardin songs, including "If I Were a Carpenter", while Hardin's biggest hit was written by Darin: "Simple Song of Freedom" in 1969. Of the 5 versions I've heard of this song, I like this one the best.
