Darin was a very special and talented entertainer. He was a Grammy award winning singer ('Mack The Knife'), a respected member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ('Dream Lover', 'Splish Splash', 'If I Were A Carpenter') a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a successful record producer, an Oscar nominated actor and a strong supporter of the American Heart Association. Bobby was married to actress Sandra Dee from 1960-1967. They had one son, Dodd, born in December 1961. As a result of complications from a rheumatic heart, Bobby's life was tragically cut short in 1973.
Darin's mother, Vanina Cassotto, had given birth to him when she was 16, and as a result, her parents raised Darin as though he were their son while Vanina was presented off as his elder sister. Darin did not learn the truth about his parentage until he was 32.

Just wait and see
Music and parties and laughter
Like it used to be
'Cause I'm comin' back to make us a life of our own
When I get home
Umm when I get home (baby)
Is far I know
But just remember this, baby
Wherever you go
I'm gonna love you and never leave you alone
When I get home
Umm when I get home (baby)
When I get home
You're gonna wake up and find there's a new kind of dawn
Baby,when I get home
I'm gonna make up for all the time I've been gone
Baby, baby, if you love me
You'll hang on a little bit longer
And we'll see it through
There ain't no nothin' can stop me
From reachin' you
And I'm gonna give you a love like you never known
When I get home
Umm when I get home (baby)
When I get home (baby)
When I get home (baby)
When I get home (baby)
When I get home (baby)
When I get home (baby)
When I get home (baby)
When I get home (baby)
The song 'When I Get Home' by Bobby Darin is a tender love song that speaks of the singer's desire to return home to his significant other. He promises good times, music, parties, and laughter like they used to have together. Bobby Darin seems to be addressing his lover from afar, as he mentions being 5,000 miles away in the opening line. Although he acknowledges the distance between them, he assures his significant other that wherever they go, he will continue to love and never leave them alone.
The chorus of the song is the most significant part of the song, as it contains the title and the repetition of the phrase 'when I get home (baby).' It's clear that the singer is eager to return home to his lover and start a new life together. He expresses his desire to make up for all the time that he's been gone and to give his lover a love like she's never known. The final line of the song 'when I get home' repeated several times suggests that the arrival of the singer back home is viewed as a significant event.
Overall, 'When I Get Home' is an emotional ballad that expresses the joys and challenges of being in love while far away from one another. The song's lyrics evoke a sense of warmth and comfort between the two lovers despite the distance. Bobby Darin sings the song with tremendous feeling to make it more emotional, which makes the listener appreciate the song even more.

Thanks for the upload Roy , it's good to hear the original writer's version of a song. However, the Searchers is (in my opinion) much better , even though Frank thought their version started in a Pessimistic key , I still love it!!
