Darin was a very special and talented entertainer. He was a Grammy award winning singer ('Mack The Knife'), a respected member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ('Dream Lover', 'Splish Splash', 'If I Were A Carpenter') a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a successful record producer, an Oscar nominated actor and a strong supporter of the American Heart Association. Bobby was married to actress Sandra Dee from 1960-1967. They had one son, Dodd, born in December 1961. As a result of complications from a rheumatic heart, Bobby's life was tragically cut short in 1973.
Darin's mother, Vanina Cassotto, had given birth to him when she was 16, and as a result, her parents raised Darin as though he were their son while Vanina was presented off as his elder sister. Darin did not learn the truth about his parentage until he was 32.

I didn't wanna do it
I didn't wanna do it
You made me want you
And all the time you knew it
I guess you always knew it
You made me happy sometimes
But there were times
You made me feel so bad
You made me cry for
I didn't wanna tell you
I didn't wanna tell you
I want some love that's true
Yes, I do, 'deed I do
You know I do
Gimmie, gimmie, gimmie, gimmie what I cry for
You know you've got the brand of kisses
That I'd die for
You know you made me love you
You made me cry for
I didn't wanna tell you
I didn't wanna tell you
I want some love that's true
Yes, I do, 'deed I do
You know I do
Gimmie, gimmie, gimmie, gimmie what I cry for
You know you've got the brand of kisses
That I'd die for
You know you made me love you
The lyrics of Bobby Darin's song "You Made Me Love You" describe the experience of falling in love against one's will. The opening lines express a feeling of reluctance towards love: "You made me love you, I didn't wanna do it, I didn't wanna do it." This sentiment is repeated twice, emphasizing the initial resistance to emotional attachment. Despite this hesitation, the singer is unable to resist the object of their affection, stating "you made me want you, and all the time you knew it, I guess you always knew it." This line suggests that the subject of the song is aware of the effect they have on the singer and may be using their power to manipulate or coerce them into love.
The lyrics then detail the highs and lows of the relationship, from moments of happiness and gladness to times of sadness and hurt. The singer acknowledges that their lover has the ability to make them cry, but they are hesitant to speak up about their true desires, saying "I didn't wanna tell you, I want some love that's true, yes, I do, 'deed I do, you know I do." This line reveals that the singer's reluctance towards love may stem from a fear of being hurt or of being unable to find love that is genuine.
The chorus repeats the lines "gimmie, gimmie, gimmie, gimmie what I cry for, you know you've got the brand of kisses that I'd die for, you know you made me love you." This repetition emphasizes the power dynamic between the two characters and the hypnotic effect that the object of affection has on the singer.
Overall, the lyrics of "You Made Me Love You" paint a picture of a relationship that is unbalanced and potentially unhealthy. The singer is hesitant to give into their feelings, but ultimately cannot resist the allure of the person they are attracted to. The song serves as a warning against the dangers of giving into temptation and blindly following our emotions.
