He rocks in the treetops all day long
Hoppin' and a-boppin' and singing his song
All the little birds on Jaybird Street
Rockin' robin (tweet-tweet-tweet)
Rock-rock-rockin' robin' (tweet-tweedilly-tweet)
Blow, rockin' robin
'Cause we're really gonna rock tonight (tweet-tweedilly-tweet)
Yeah
Every little swallow, every chick-a-dee
Every little bird in the tall oak tree
The wise old owl, the big black crow
Flappin' their wings singin', "Go, bird, go"
Rockin' robin (tweet-tweet-tweet)
Rock-rock-rockin' robin' (tweet-tweedilly-tweet)
Blow, rockin' robin
'Cause we're really gonna rock tonight (tweet-tweedilly-tweet)

A pretty little raven at the bird bandstand
Taught him how to do the bop and it was grand
They started going steady and bless my soul
He out-bopped the buzzard and the oriole
He rocks in the treetop all day long
Hoppin' and a-boppin' and singing his song
All the little birds on Jaybird Street
Love to hear the robin go tweet-tweet-tweet
Rockin' robin (tweet-tweet-tweet)
Rock-rock-rockin' robin' (tweet-tweedilly-tweet)
Blow, rockin' robin
'Cause we're really gonna rock tonight (tweet-tweedilly-tweet)
Alright
Well, the pretty little raven at the bird bandstand
Taught him how to do the bop and it was grand
They started going steady and bless my soul
He out-bopped the buzzard and the oriole
He rocks in the treetop all day long
Hoppin' and a-boppin' and singing his song
All the little birds on Jaybird Street

The lyrics to Bobby Day's "Rockin' Robin" describe a robin who spends his days in the treetops singing and dancing while other birds listen with joy. The song implies that the robin is the king of Jaybird Street, as all the birds enjoy hearing him sing "tweet-tweet-tweet." Additionally, the robin has learned a new dance called the bop from a pretty raven at the bird bandstand, which he's eager to perform with a true rock 'n' roll style.
While the song seems lighthearted and fun on the surface, it's actually celebrating the importance of music and the joy it can bring. The song's upbeat melody reinforces its message of happiness and unity through music. The lyrics are also indirectly referencing the civil rights movement, which was gaining momentum during the time the song was released. It is said that the song served as a symbol of freedom and equality, as it showed a black musician breaking down barriers and achieving success.

Im currently 10, almost 11. I remember being about 5 or 6 and me and my grandma would wake up everyday at 9 or 10am to go sit out in the porch and sing. We'd always sing this song. Even everyday at 6am when i woke up to go to school we'd sing this waiting for the bus. Great memories.

Thanks to my beautiful Mommy, who was born in 1941 and grew up in the heart of this ear, I know all of the songs and dances from her youth. This is a great song. :)
