A little boy and a girl were so in love
Standing neath the moon above
He said, "me Japanese boy, I love you, I do love you
You Japanese girl, you love me, please say you do"
They carved their names on an cherry tree
Then he gently held her hand
And said, "me Japaneses boy, I love you, I do love you
You Japaneses girl, you love me, please say you do"
In a blue and white Kimono
She became his happy bride
From that day until this very moment
She'd been standing by his side
Now they are old and from what I am told
They're still in love just as much as they once were
Every night he kisses her
And said, "me Japanese boy, I love you, I do love you"
There is the way that it should be when love is true
There is the way that it should be for me and you
The lyrics to Bobby Goldsboro's song And I Love You So tell the story of a little boy and girl who fell in love a long time ago in a land far away. The boy, who identifies as a Japanese boy, declares his love to the Japanese girl and she reciprocates the feelings. The two carve their names on a cherry tree, a Japanese tradition that has been done since time began. The song paints a romantic picture of their love, even showing the boy holding the girl's hand gently. The song jumps years ahead to show that the couple has gotten married, with the girl wearing a blue and white kimono, and are still in love. The song ends on the note that their love is a model for all of us, "There is the way that it should be when love is true."
Through the story of the Japanese boy and girl, the song touches on themes such as young love, tradition, and the longevity of love. The fact that they are from a different culture highlights the universality of love and how it can transcend barriers such as language or nationality. The song captures the sentiment that love is timeless and endures through the ups and downs of life. It portrays a love that is pure and true, one that stands the test of time.

And I love you so
The people ask me how
How I believed till now
I tell them I don't know
I guess they understand how lonely life is been
But life begin again
The day you took my hand
And yes, I know how lonely life can be
The shadows follow me
And night won't set me free
But I don't let the evening get me down
Now that you're around me
And you love me too
You thought are just for me
You set my spirit free
I'm happy that you do
The book of life is brief
And once a page is read
All that love is dead
And that is my belief
And yes, I know how lonely life can be
The shadows follow me
And night won't set me free
But I don't let the evening bring me down
Now that you're around me
And I love you so
The people ask me how
How I believed till now
I tell them I don't know
And I love you so
And I love you so

If there are moments in the music that makes me absolutely ecstatic, this is eternal, with all the respect I have for others, but I'd say this is special because it's been so many years and I'm still with the same emotion listening to him.
