My Foolish Heart
Bobby Hutcherson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The night is like a lovely tune
Beware my foolish heart
How white the ever constant moon
Take care my foolish heart

There's a line between love and fascination
That's hard to see, how many names such as this
For they both have the very same sensation
When you're locked in the magic of a kiss

Her lips are much too close to mine
Beware my foolish heart
But should our eager lips combine
Then let the fire start

For this time it isn't fascination
Or a dream that will fade and fall apart

It's love, this time it's love
My foolish heart

Overall Meaning

The song "My Foolish Heart" is a poignant tale of love, heartbreak, and the thin line between them. The lyrics warn of the dangers of falling in love, the fragility of the heart, and the overwhelming power of desire. The singer acknowledges that there is a fine line between love and fascination, one that can easily be crossed, and that it's important to be cautious and not let oneself be blinded by passion.

The first stanza sets the stage for the rest of the song, with the singer warning of the dangers of the night and the moon that shines so bright. The second stanza delves into the complexities of love, and how it can be hard to distinguish from fascination. The third stanza speaks directly to the object of the singer's affection, cautioning that their lips are too close together and that they must be careful not to fall too deeply in love. Finally, the last stanza acknowledges that the singer has indeed fallen in love and that this time it is not just fascination, but true love.

Overall, "My Foolish Heart" is a cautionary tale, warning of the risks and dangers of love, while also acknowledging the powerful magic that can be found in a deep and genuine connection with another person.

this set is just exquisite. i heard some of it on KCSM online and WOW. i had to alert a friend who is a Bobby Hutcherson fan as i have become. Joey also amazes, not only in his playing but his close interest in how Bobby was expressing himself.

i also have to mention that Joey seems to be losing some serious weight for which i was concerned about for some time good luck to all these top tier jazz musicians.
