Julie Do Ya Love Me?
Bobby Sherman Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Bein' alone at night makes me sad, girl
Yeah, it brings me down all right
Tossin' and turnin' and freezin' and burnin'
And cryin' all through the night

Whoa-oh
Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya love me?
Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya care?
Julie, Julie, are ya thinkin' of me?
Julie, Julie, will ya still be there?

We had so much fun together
I was sure that you were mine
But leavin' you, baby, is drivin' me crazy
It's got me wonderin' all the time

Whoa-oh
Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya love me?
Ah, Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya care?
Julie, Julie, are ya thinkin' of me?
Julie, Julie, will ya still be there?

Honey, you cried the day I left you
Even though we knew I couldn't stay
But baby, remember, I'll be back September
But till then I'll write you every day

Whoa-oh
Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya love me?
Ah, Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya care?
Come on, Julie, Julie, are ya thinkin' of me?
Julie, Julie, will ya still be there?

Oh-oh

Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya love me?
Ah, Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya care?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Bobby Sherman's song "Julie Do Ya Love Me" are about a man who is struggling with being alone at night, and wondering if the woman he loves, Julie, still cares for him. The man is feeling sad and low because he is tossing and turning, freezing and burning, and crying through the night because he misses Julie. The chorus of the song is the man's desperate plea to Julie, asking her if she loves him, if she cares, if she's thinking of him, and if she'll still be there for him.

The man reminisces about the good times they had together and how he was sure Julie was his. However, leaving her has driven him crazy, and he wonders all the time if she still loves him. He reminds Julie that he'll be back in September but until then, he will write to her every day to keep their connection alive.

Overall, "Julie Do Ya Love Me" is a heartfelt and emotional love song about the ups and downs of a relationship, the pain of being apart, and the hope that love will conquer all.

Bobby Sherman sang this song to me on stage at the Clio theater as a part of the teen idols tour. It was my 42 birthday Andy name is Julie. My best friend made that happen. I was caught completely off guard and was the envy of countless women in the audience. Now, at age 66, I have a copy of his 45, the tickets from that night, the promo picture of the teen idols framed in a shadow box... a gift from the same friend. Some memories you just have to remember forever.

Wow!!! Such a wonderful memory for you - how fabulous of your friend to make this happen & sounds as if Bobby was a total mensch. I too was head-over-heels for Bobby Sherman - my first pop star crush.

@donpaladino

WAY cool, Julie

One really great thing about him was that he was interviewed and said he knew his fans were just kids, and never wanted to do/say anything that would be uncomfortable for his fans or their parents. Modern acts could take the hint. He was an EMT for a long time after his singing career. Has always seemed like one of the nicest of people.

@user-cf7pe3qg1c

He's a solid and grounded man.
He didn't hang onto entertainment long after his prime like many.
He went on to other things and it paid off. Much better life!

@helenmary9628

Thank you for that bit of information. That's really important especially in this day and age. A really good act to follow!

@lisaosfan

Dave , I totally agree with you. I've seen him interviewed and loved him in HCTB, although I was only around 7 when it aired. But I loved to hear him sing and yes, I think that he was one of the nicest people ever in the pop and entertainment field. Thank you Bobby !!!!!!
