Baby Face
Bobby Vee Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Rosy cheeks and turned up nose and curly hair
I'm raving 'bout my baby now
Pretty little dimples here and dimples there
Don't want to live without her
I love her goodness knows
I wrote a song about her and here's the way it goes

Baby face, you've got the cutest little baby face
There's not another one could take your place, Baby face
My poor heart is jumpin', you sure have started somethin'
Baby face, I'm up in heaven when I'm in your fond embrace
I didn't need a shove, 'cause I just fell in love
With your pretty baby face

When you were a baby not so long ago
You must have been the cutest thing
I can picture you at ev'ry baby show
Just winnin' ev'ry ribbon with your sweet baby way
Say, honest I ain't fibbin', you'd win 'em all today

Baby face, you've got the cutest little baby face
There's not another one could take your place, Baby face
My poor heart is jumpin', you sure have started somethin'
Baby face, I'm up in heaven when I'm in your fond embrace

I didn't need a shove, 'cause I just fell in love
With your pretty baby face

Overall Meaning

In Bobby Vee's "Baby Face," the singer is completely smitten with his significant other's physical features. He lists off her "rosy cheeks and turned up nose and curly hair" and "pretty little dimples" that he can't live without. Even as a baby, the singer imagines that his lover was the cutest thing around, winning every ribbon and award at baby shows. The song's chorus is dedicated to the titular feature that the singer adores so much: her "cutest little baby face." He can't imagine anyone else taking her place in his heart because he's completely head-over-heels for her.

As a whole, the song conveys a simplistic and innocent view of love. The singer might not be able to pinpoint exactly why he loves his girlfriend's face so much, but it's an intrinsic part of his feelings for her. The choice to include the reference to her being the cutest thing at baby shows, too, adds an endearing touch to the lyrics. The song is straightforward in its adoration, keeping to the theme of praising the little details that make love so captivating.

Silly, but lots of fun doing a wild version of a Jolson classic.

Exclusively seen on "film jukeboxes" in Europe (similar to the "Soundies" produced in the U.S. during the '40s, with more accent towards feminine "pulchritude"). This was originally released in 1966.

Shot on what looks like the most dismal June Gloom day of the year. Looks like those girls were freezing.

Never liked Bobby Vee, but the girls are great!

Dejael Long

Bobby Vee had a baby face in this video! This tune was recorded in 1960, released in 1961, and this Scopitone music video (on damaged 16mm film) was made in 1965, filmed on Malibu Beach, California.

@ShaggyDawg it got to #2 in Australia.

This is really bizarre i'm sure 1965 this was out of fashion. But now we can watch Bobby Vee and the girls in colour because of the very late making of this media clip

ausfan100

That's INCORRECT, Vee recorded 'Baby Face' at a 6 song recording session which took place at United on March 17, 1961. The song was a #4 hit for him on the Australian Top 40 charts that same year.

Colin Sanders

it only got to #119 on Billboard
