Hotline Bling
Boehm & Charlie Puth Lyrics

You used to call me on my cell phone
Late night when you need my love
Call me on my cell phones
Late night when you need my love
I know when that hotline bling
That can only mean one thing
I know when that hotline bling
That can only mean one thing

Ever since I left the city you
Got a reputation for yourself now
Everybody knows and I feel left out
Girl you got me down, you got me stressed out
'Cause ever since I left the city, you
Started wearing less and goin' out more
Glasses of champagne out on the dance floor
Hangin' with some girls I've never seen before

You used to call me on my cell phone
Late night when you need my love
Call me on my cell phone
Late night when you need my love
I know when that hotline bling
That can only mean one thing
I know when that hotline bling
That can only mean one thing

Ever since I left the city, you, you, you
You and me we just don't get along
You make me feel like I did you wrong
Going places where you don't belong
Ever since I left the city, you
You got exactly what you asked for
Running out of pages on your passport
Hanging with some girls I've never seen before

You used to call me on my cell phone
Late night when you need my love
Call me on my cell phone
Late night when you need my love
I know when that hotline bling
That can only mean one thing
I know when that hotline bling
That can only mean one thing

These days, all I do is
Wonder if you bendin' over backwards for someone else
Wonder if your rollin' backwoods for someone else
Doing things I taught you gettin' nasty for someone else
You don't need no one else
You don't need nobody else, no
Why you never alone
Why you always touching road
Used to always stay at home, be a good girl
You was in the zone
You should just be yourself
Right now, you're someone else

You used to call me on my cell phone
Late night when you need my love
Call me on my cell phone
Late night when you need my love
I know when that hotline bling
That can only mean one thing

I know when that hotline bling
That can only mean one thing

Overall Meaning

The song โ€œHotline Blingโ€ by Boehm and Charlie Puth is about a failed relationship. The song is directed towards an ex-partner who used to call him on the hotline, late at night when in need of love. The hotline refers to the phone the ex-partner would call him on to rekindle their love. The fact that the hotline blings, can only mean one thing which is the ex-partner needing his love. The artist acknowledges that ever since he left the city, the ex-partner has had a reputation, and he feels left out. She has started wearing fewer clothes and going out more often, living a life that is unfamiliar to him.

The artist feels that ever since he left the relationship, she has moved on, and they no longer get along. He feels like he did her wrong and that she is going places where he does not belong. She has got what she asked for, running out of pages on her passport, and hanging out with girls he has never seen before. Charlie Puth wonders why she is never alone, always touching the road, and no longer stays at home being a good girl. Now she is someone else, and the artist urges her to be herself.
