1) youth crew hardcore
Bold is a late 1980s youth crew hardcore band from Westchester County, New York, which along with bands like Youth Of Today and Side By Side were a part of the Youth Crew, and an influence in the late 80's straight edge hardcore scene. The band progressed to a more rock-oriented sound in its later years.
2) psych garage obscurity
Bold released one obscure, self-titled psychedelic album on ABC in 1969, though earlier they'd released two hard garage rock singles on Cameo and Dynovoice (one of them credited to Steve Walker & the Bold). One of those singles, the group original "Gotta Get Some," was very much like Paul Revere & the Raiders at their toughest, and became a favorite among '60s garage collectors after its inclusion on Pebbles, Vol. 9. Another -- a less distinctive cover of "The Train Kept a Rollin'," showed up on Pebbles, Vol. 10. By the time of their ABC album, they'd gone psychedelic, and dropped the "the" from their "the Bold" billing. Produced by a young Bill Szymczyk (later to produce the Eagles, the Who, and several other stars), Bold is a minor but respectable and diverse LP, mixing harmony vocals, classically-influenced organ, and some of the folk-rock sensibility of Buffalo Springfield in that band's harder-rocking moments.
Bold grew out of the Esquires, who formed at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA, where one of their friends was the young, then-university student Taj Mahal. The Esquires released a pretty forgettable, early British Invasion-influenced single before changing their personnel, changing their name to Bold, and releasing their Cameo and Dynovoice singles in 1966 and 1967, respectively. Although they were popular regionally, opening for stars like Mahal, Big Brother & the Holding Company, and Jimi Hendrix, their ABC album didn't break them to a bigger audience, and they disbanded shortly afterward. Lead guitarist Bob LaPalm and drummer Tim Griffin formed Clean Living, who put out a couple of albums on Vanguard in the early 1970s, and Griffin briefly played drums for James Taylor. Everything released by Bold -- including the ABC album, the two pre-ABC singles, and the Esquires single -- is included on the Misty Lane CD compilation Lullaby Opus Four.
Looking Back

Vigor, everything so new.
In that time of so little doubt,
Knew exactly what to do.
Everything was so defined,
My purposes were clear,
Took on anything in the way
Good times, bad times,
Haunt me looking back.
Back I looked on years spent
And all the things I've seen.
'Cause I'm so much older,
You must know what I mean.
I've learned from those days,
Both good and bad, thinking
Back on all those times I had.
Good times, bad times,
Haunt me looking back.
Years have passed,
And I'm still here;
But things don't stay the same
Growing older questioning,
Things could never stay the
Same.
What have I done?
What have I learned?
And what have I gained?
Good times, bad times,
Haunt me looking back.
The lyrics to Bold's song, "Looking Back," depict the reflective journey of a person who has lived through various experiences and has grown through them. The song begins with the singer reminiscing about the past, where everything was new and exciting. They were full of energy and had a clear understanding of their goals and objectives. In that time, they knew exactly what to do, and nothing could stop them. But looking back, they now realize that those times were not always perfect.
As the song progresses, the singer reflects on the different experiences they have had over the years. They have learned from them, both the good and the bad. The experiences they have had have shaped them into the person they are today. They have grown older and have questioned the path they have taken in life. What have they gained? What have they learned? What have they done?
The lyrics of the song reveal that life has not always been easy, and the singer has had to face many challenges. But through it all, they have persevered and have emerged stronger. The haunting memories of both the good and bad times of their past continue to influence and shape who they are today.
