What's extraordinary is how, JUST LIKE IN REAL LIFE, the more we get to know them, the more .... "beautiful" they both become to me ... I have to admit, I actually think I was initially put off by the fact that the actors were unknowns .... and how petty that reasoning really was. It's PTA, and I should've known better LOL. PTA is BIG HEART + keen intellect + cinematic chops, to be basically blunt about it. A rather rare combination it seems. Andrew Dominik is another modern day filmmaker (who writes his own films) and has similar sensibilities.

I went into this movie with low expectation...Alana's character was so insanely real and refreshing she wins you over in the first 5 minutes...this movie was totally original and unexpected, I'm not sure what it was about but I loved it and the ending is 100% authentic

Right after seeing it, I definitely felt I had seen something very different. At first I thought it was maybe too long, but it continues to grow on me the more I think about it. It was definitely a combination of romance and a documentation of a time in history. Very much a nostalgia piece

Finally an original and different film on the big screen! Such a feel good movie. The characters and the story feel genuine, nothing forced, nothing polished. So refreshing and so unexpected.

Incredible trailer which I’ve seen countless times both online and in cinemas and I’m still watching over and over again even after seeing the film itself which tells you how good it is, it’s that good and the performances so believable that you just get caught up in everything going on, willing both of them on. The kind of film that makes you feel like your holding your breath in in anticipation the whole way, the kind of film of that is the perfect example of why I love the cinema experience

Just finally watched the film after loving the trailer for months and months. I was surprised that a bunch of scenes from the trailer weren't in the final cut. I enjoyed the film a lot but was a bit disappointed that some of the scenes from the trailer weren't included.

OMG…I saw the trailer back in November and I don’t know why it took me almost two months to go see it. I saw it yesterday and it was as wonderful as I had anticipated. Like you, I cannot stop watching this brilliant trailer, which is a mini masterpiece in itself. What a brilliant auteur PTA is.

Fun Fact : it's Paul Thomas Anderson who edited this trailer. Ever since The Master, he edited his movie's trailer by himself to avoid some sort of spoilery obviously because Anderson's movies are mostly original and only him who knows how the story goes

Watched it yesterday. What a great movie that just allows good writing, directing and acting to happen. There’s not even much of a plot to the story, just two characters living their lives and carrying out a complicated relationship. Great film.

Wow, we just watched this on Amazon Prime and this is the best movie I have seen in years. And yes, it made me feel great and moved and we all laughed, without any Green Screen CGI special effects and over the top violence or grossness. What a breath of fresh air. Why can't they make more movies like this? What a great Producer, Director and screenplay. The actors were all believable and great, really great. Thanks guys...

What a magical and wonderful movie. In this difficult time, most of us became sceptikal and cynical about the notion of hapinness. Paul Thomas Anderson proved us we were all wrong. Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman are simply solar. Thank you, life can be joyful again and this masterpiece is a pure moment of delectation !

I honestly did not know what to expect from this movie but didn't know what to watch so played it and was so pleasantly surprised. I love it. After movie finished and I found out that it was directed and produced by Paul Thomas Anderson, now that makes sense why I enjoyed it so much. It's different, in unique style so characteristic for Anderson. Also both actors' performances are too good, too real. Cooper Hoffman is phenomenal, he put his true emotion in every single scene and you feel every bit of it. You can absolutely tell he got his father's Philip Seymour's acting genes.

The more I hear the Bowie soundtrack to this trailer, the more perfect it becomes. It just has the absolute PTA vibe, in every possible way and not just the lyrics. The Bowie style, how it captures the time, it is absolutely spot-on. I've always said that I've never seen a movie that captured the look of the '70s better than Boogie Nights, it seems that PTA has met his own standard once again. Lining up to see this one!

Without a doubt one of my favourite films of recent years and it will be on my list of favourite films of all time. I just love it and I've seen it 3 times in the cinema. When The Doors Peace Frog played from start to finish, I knew there would be no doubt. When Haim came to Glasgow's OVO Hydro recently, I had to buy a ticket, so I could be right at the front of the stage, in front of Alana. I love those girls. What a night and what a movie!. Æ 🙏

Even Paul Thomas Anderson's self-cut trailers are as intoxicating and addicting as his films. I still rewatch his trailers more than I should. True God of cinema. The subtlety of this one is brilliant. Also I have fallen in love with HAIM.

After watching this trailer, I'm genuinely excited. I love movies set in the 50s-70s (I know that's oddly specific) with this type of music. Tarantino portrayed it very well with Pitt and DiCaprio, Edgar Wright set a great 60s mood for Last Night in Soho, and even Gunn made Guardians of the Galaxy have the late 60s/early 70s vibe with songs like "Hooked On A Feeling."

25 year old being with a 15 year old is super weird though, to be fair. I remember when I was 21, I was dating a 16 year old and I got so much flak over it. I ended up breaking things off pretty quickly because everyone was acting like I was some sort of predator.

Then I met my current gf when I was 27 and she was 22 and nobody even suspects any age difference or cares. Still, I get why people think it's odd for someone in their 20s to be dating a teenager.

I kept seeing the trailer on hulu and it went from "She looks familiar" to "Wait isn't that a Haim sister", to "Ah, it looks like her but it can't be" to finally looking up the cast and discovering that it's her.

This happened to be one of the best movies I have seen for a myriad of reasons. I looked at comments posted recently and see lots of negative ones. I can only wonder if these people are young ... and were not alive, or old enough, to have been around in the 70's.
You know how "you don't know ... what you don't know". The comparison of the rotary telephone to the use of cell phones today. They were only capable of a few things, but look at the strength of those two phone calls ... where no one talked ... with no caller ID ... but they knew who placed the calls. The way people dressed. People didn't have to have perfect teeth. Back in the 70's it was "who you were inside". Your clothes did not define who you were as a person. Neither did your teeth. It only confirmed in my mind how grateful I am to have been a young adult in that time period. Helps me cope with the krap period of today.
As far as the age difference goes, I think it ultimately showed that Gary was more of a man than the other legally aged men who might have been suitors for her. Movie has a great ending and ends on a happy note.

An unexpected treat. Had no idea what it was about and fell in love with it. I could have done without the Sean Penn/Tom Waits part, that made little sense, but the rest was fantastic.

I never said they could not act or the movie would be bad...i only said they would NEVER have gotten a chance if it wasn't for their fathers....and Ms. Haim would NEVER have been chosen for the role is she and her family weren't best Buds with the writer/director/producer of Licorice Pizza...I still have never said they couldn't act or the movie was bad.....how many people in the middle of Nowhere, USA have just as much talent as famous actors but never got a chance because they don't know the right people.

This is the oscar winning movie, not Belfast. Turned that one off after 30 minutes. Licorice pizza grabs you at the first scene. Amazing actors too.

Tremendous movie ! I saw the first showing in LA and loved it !!!! Another PTA classic with the great cast, cinematography and soundtrack. The two new actors Hoffman and Haim blew me away !! Hope to see them both continue on their acting journey.The writer and director himself even came out to introduce the movie. Very classy PTA ! Thanks for the inspiration at a much needed time. : )
