Nah, it isnt that. The kid is internally conflicted. He wanted the responsibility before, but due to how he found his grandpa, doesnt want anything to do with the lighthouse anymore. It isnt about pressure people are placing on him, it's him trying to reconcile with the idea that his grandpa died doing his job. The boy wanted to be the lighthouse keeper because his grandpa did it, but he didnt believe in the mythology of why it was so important to make sure the lighthouse was lit every night, even when his grandpa was clearly ill.

hey this is pretty accurate irish dancing (coming from an actual irish step dancer)!! music sounds like something you’d hear at one of our performances, although if those tiles are slick at all i can’t believe that not one person tripped because there’s very few surfaces that we can dance on easily (plywood, marley, and that’s pretty much it haha). anything slick or rough we can’t dance on because not only does it completely ruin your shoes but your feet either can’t stay in place or they keep getting caught. i’ve danced on tile once before and will never do it again because it ended up in a twisted ankle. i could understand it if they danced in maybe the wooden floor of a church room or something (i’ve done so several times) but tile seems slightly unrealistic.

moving away from the surfaces, the actual dance moves are recognizable and don’t just look like random tapping although their feet aren’t moving quite fast enough to get all the beats i feel like. i noticed some boxes (where they go on their heels and sort of swivel a little), which is very common in ‘traditional’ irish dancing. in fact, many of my performance dances would be almost identical to this dance and i’d love to learn it with my school for fun!

Irish Dancer here as well, I'll be honest, I was scared to see how this was going to play out but honestly, I can't complain. It's nice seeing that they used actual footage of the dancers to do these bits. Riverdance had posted on their story how they did it.
As for the surface, It's RAINING! How did they not fall or get hurt? Like, that's pretty slippery so I 100% feel you on that!

That’s interesting, because the music is a slow treble reel. It’s not as fast as our usual reels but it’s got the same beats as a normal treble reel. When it speeds up towards the end and the girl starts dancing, it becomes a classic reel at the ‘correct’ speed.

@@singun2474 No that's another symbol. The symbol they do is from what is referred to as "St Brigid's/Brigitte's (spelling varies) Cross"

It comes from a legend of an Irish King/Chieftan(what and who varies by telling) who is terminally ill. She is asked by his family and people to come and baptize him before death so he may enter Heaven. She goes as asked but he is too feverish and raving to be able to do anything with. She remains regardless to at least ease the Chieftan's passing. On the floor, as was common, was hay, so she started weaving a cross shape while offering what comforting words and care he would allow her to.

He then asks about what she's making and she tells him the story of Jesus and the crucifixion. This gets his attention and as she tells the story he's able to relax a little as he hears it. Afterward she gives it to him and he permits her to Baptize him. She does and shortly after he passes peacefully under her care.

@@jakehiller6444 Irish dancing has a specific set of motions/steps that you can do with you're feet and body, like ballet does. Jigs are made of a choreographed set of these steps.

People who train in Irish dance have these specific steps so ingrained in them that they can copy the whole jig and match the tempo after just SEEING the jig a time or two.

Very different from learning the actual choreography of the jig beforehand and then joining in, smart ass

Also what you're saying is just not true. Jigs vary in steps massively and sure you can pick it up from watching but it's not some magical ingrained thing. It comes from just being well versed in the style of dance. Ask any professional dancer

The first wake I attended had glorious dancing...I was on the bodhran, grand da on fiddle, my cousins spoons, tin whistle, uillean, accordian, banjo and..at some point...a second fiddle...then a third...there were always enough folks playing music for people to have generous breaks for food and drink. No one wanted to stop...not the dancers, anyway...it went on all night long and way into the next day. People were subdued at the grave side when it was finally time to get to that part of the proceedings...but no wonder. Everyone was just worn out...and I think that helped folks get through the hard part of saying goodbye.

My grand da is gone now but I remember him singing...and his love for music, his family and animals...I remember him so clearly. Without memory, my life would be a bitter catalog of loss as one by one those who mattered most took their place in the family plot near the old homestead or the burial grounds near their churches. But my excellent memory means that I never really lost them...everything they were to me I carry with me wherever I go. My little sister's bright blue eyes and big heart...my cousin Mikey's courage and stubborn optimism...my best friend's unshakeable decency and love of long trips on the back roads...my grandmother singing sweet as a thrush in the garden as she danced on the dewy grass...and the others, each one still precious to me and clear in my mind...it's a gift I am more than grateful for.

@@erifox3626 It just takes practice. I still haven't mastered the Hopak, which is what we Westener's call the Russian step dance. really a Ukrainian dance. I first attempted it when I was I think 5 or 6 it was really just because I thought it was funny and a friend of mine were watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal skull. So we tried to impersonate it. But then I retried it when I was in high school. I was able to do it but not professionally because I still had my feet on the ground. Then when I got in college I was able to actually kick up in the air. You need to have strong knees to do it though. Like really strong knees.

Yep, the commenter above me, it’s motion capture! They use that for 3D animation. Rotoscoping is used for 2D, to put it very simply it’s basically advanced tracing.

They are more closely related than the first commenter claims. Tap is both African and Irish/Scottish in its origins. The fusion really kicked off when a few Black men joined a mostly white traveling minstrel troupe. The most famous of them was William Henry Lane, who danced under the name Master Juba. He influenced minstrel shows, which were brutally racist except in the authenticity of the dancing, into having even stronger ties to actual Black American dance forms at the time while still keeping a solid chunk of the clog/hard shoe dancing he and his fellows learned in the troupe. This may also have influenced the development of jazz and step dancing.

It’s emotionally painful when someone loses a loved one. But I could see the look on the boy’s face when he learned that he was capable of carrying on his grandfather’s legacy. I was heartbroken when my Grandpa Sweet (my mom’s dad) died on Thanksgiving Day of 2019. But I knew to be happy for him now that he’s not is pain anymore. I can already imagine him cuddling with my old dog Mozart in Heaven (God bless both of them)! I feel like sharing this video sometime with my Grandma Sweet. Oh, and the Irish step dancing is so awesome! I loved it!

Irish People Give their elders a great send off and have a wake for a week, I remember the priest saying to my Mother do you not think it is time commemorate my father to the ground before he melts through the coffin lol the party and dancing was Awesome .. We Celebrated his life on Earth and helped him on with his passing to be with his Mother , Father and family, Ancestors who have gone before him, For the Kids who are hurting it learns them that they are brilliant and can do anything they want to do with the love and encouragement from all the family

PS: to navblue, tradition and generational culture doesn’t stop physics. They’re on a noticeably rough surface with gaps in the tiles, which are also all wet and therefore slippery without regard to how careful or trained you are. Those shoes have maybe three surfaces they’re meant for (which you can still slip on) and “freshly wet brick tiles” is not one of them.

All the best parts to this movie were the on point dance scenes that reflected the live performance. I wish more of the original enchantment from the show had carried over to the movie with the emersion into a world of music and dance that stimulates the imagination.

This was absolutely invigorating! I love Irish music (though I can't dance worth a damn. XD ), I was still dancing along to this though! Awesome work, I love the fish colors in 3 and the square shape in 4, it's so delightful, so energetically cosmic, you really feel the soul of this.

Not always. There’s a pair of brothers that do traditional Irish dancing and they dance with bent arms, but they don’t move them often.

I have to admit that seeing how accurately they recreated the formations of the dancers in this clip alone kind of made me feel nostalgic. I'm not a pro dancer or an animator so I can't speak to the accuracy of the footwork. Don't know if I plan on watching it, since I just can't put my finger on exactly why it puts me off, but I might try and find some of the other dance clips for comparison's sake.
