It's Alright Now
Bombay Bicycle Club Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's alright now, I don't wanna wait
It's alright now, I don't wanna wait
It's alright now, I don't wanna wait
It's alright now, I don't wanna wait

Let me be your fortress
One word then all of this
If I pushed it all to the back
Would you run home just like that?

If you're not there today
It's alright now, I can't wait
You cannot think of the cost
Burnt up like the day we lost

If only you could you see mine
Running out dry
Some of these feelings never died
I step onto your side
You never did see mine
Tell me are you sleeping still tonight

Is this the one
Is this the one
Is this the place where it all stems from
Where it had every right to become
Step away step away stay numb

'Cause you weren't there today
It's alright now, I can wait
We cannot think of the cost
Burnt up like the days we lost

If only you could you see mine
Running out dry
Some of these feelings never died
I step onto your side
You never did see mine
Tell me are you sleeping still tonight

It's alright now, I don't wanna wait
It's alright now, I don't wanna wait
Made a plan to be someone
Mess it up when the moment comes
Step away step away stay numb
It's alright now, I don't wanna wait
Made a plan to be someone
Mess it up when the moment comes
Step away step away stay numb
It's alright now, I don't wanna wait
Made a plan to be someone
Mess it up when the moment comes
Step away step away stay numb
It's alright now, I don't wanna wait
Made a plan to be someone
Mess it up when the moment comes

Step away step away stay numb
It's alright now, I don't wanna wait

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bombay Bicycle Club's "It's Alright Now" explore themes of impatience and uncertainty in relationships. The refrain of "It's alright now, I don't wanna wait" suggests a desire for immediate resolution and closure, while the lines "Let me be your fortress, one word then all of this" express a desire for security and stability. The singer questions whether their partner truly understands them, with lines like "If only you could see mine, running out dry" and "You never did see mine." The mention of "the cost" and "the days we lost" suggests that there has been some kind of damage or loss in the relationship that the singer wants to move on from.

The repeated use of the phrase "step away, stay numb" could suggest that the singer is struggling to fully engage with their feelings, perhaps as a form of self-preservation or protection. The line "Made a plan to be someone, mess it up when the moment comes" hints at a fear of failure or disappointment, and an acknowledgement that sometimes the best-laid plans don't work out.

Overall, the song captures the push and pull of a relationship that may be in flux, with the singer struggling to find emotional resolution and a sense of security.

One of my favourite songs ever. So underrated, one of those songs that just makes you feel happy just by listening to it. It kinda has a nostalgic feel to it

I'm so glad they are back! The only problem I have with this band is that when I tell people I love BBC they either think I'm talking about the British Broadcast channel or the other sexual thing lol, I miss these indie days when there were so many great bands with this happy indie sound! I did just find a similar new song with this sound Lonely Gimmick - Beaches, it's seriously one of the best new songs I've heard in a while and is a super upbeat indie track

@ohaRega

Wow, it's been 7 years already... :') I was only 20!
