Lights Out Words Gone
Bombay Bicycle Club Lyrics

My heart is breaking like you heard
But the town has always turned
These lies and made them all burn
Keep your old and wasted words
My heart is breaking like you heard
But the town has always turned
These lies and made them all burn
Can you feel the leeches bite
That boy that she took out tonight
He's brave and walking sure
Through all the spots you're working for
When the light is out and words have gone
Let me be the one to try it on
The song "Lights Out Words Gone" by Bombay Bicycle Club is a melancholic tune that speaks about heartbreak and loss, and how the singer is trying to move on from it all. The first few lines convey the singer's feeling of being tired of hearing the same empty words from the person that they loved. The repetition of "Keep your old and wasted words, my heart is breaking like you heard" gives emphasis to the singer's frustration and sadness. The line "But the town has always turned these lies and made them all burn" can be interpreted as the singer acknowledging that the lies spread about them have already taken root in the community, and it's too late to change their perception.
The next part of the song talks about how the singer can feel the pain of the person their ex-lover is with now, but they have to be brave and walk through it. The line "Through all the spots you're working for" could be interpreted as the singer having to continue with their daily routines and face the world despite the pain they feel. The chorus repeats the theme of the title, "Lights Out Words Gone", which could mean that the singer wants to get rid of the memories and words associated with their past relationship. The last line, "Let me be the one to try it on", shows the singer's willingness to move on and start anew.

Keep your old and wasted words
Please refrain from using your stale, meaningless words
My heart is breaking like you heard
My heart aches much like you've been informed
But the town has always turned
The town has long been unsympathetic
These lies and made them all burn
These false words have led to their downfall
Can you feel the leeches bite
Have you experienced the pain caused by parasites?
That boy that she took out tonight
The boy she went out with earlier
He's brave and walking sure
He's courageous and confident in his steps
Through all the spots you're working for
Despite all the efforts you make
When the light is out and words have gone
When the situation is beyond words and communication
Let me be the one to try it on
Allow me to make an attempt to fix it

Fun fact: This video was filmed in Parque de Santa Lucía (St. Lucía Park) in Mérida, Yucatán, México, where elderly people use to gather to dance "danzón", a typical cuban music genre. It is most likely that these people never had listened the actual song by Bombay Bicycle Club, but the overlapping of the music to a non-corresponding image makes it beautiful, it is all about enjoying the moment. I live in Mérida, and I can assure you that this is the spirit of our people.

Siempre imaginé que era en Merida, pero nunca exactamente dónde. Gracias por la información. Esta es una de mis canciones favoritas, cuando fui al concierto en cdmx la gente estaba euforica cuando tocaron esta rola.

Crawl TheJam It makes me cry too, otherwise I would listen to it more often. :/ It's just so melancholy (is that the right word?)
@crawlthejam
Yes, of course it's a right word to describe this climate...Song is a little bit sad, it's true. But look, those dancing people give you a lot of hope, faith...:)
