Lights Out Words Gone
Bombay Bicycle Club Lyrics

My heart is breaking like you heard
But the town has always turned
These lies and made them all burn
Keep your old and wasted words
My heart is breaking like you heard
But the town has always turned
These lies and made them all burn
Can you feel the leeches bite
That boy that she took out tonight
He's brave and walking sure
Through all the spots you're working for
When the light is out and words have gone
Let me be the one to try it on
The lyrics of "Lights Out" by Bombay Bicycle Club are open to interpretation but seem to be mainly about moving on from someone's old and meaningless words, and trying to forget the lies that have caused their heartache. Although the town's gossip and rumors continue to circulate, they have learned to ignore them and not let them control their emotions. The lyrics suggest that the person may have been hurt in the past but is now attempting to persevere and be courageous.
The lines "Can you feel the leeches bite, That boy that she took out tonight," imply that the person wrote the song may have witnessed the subject of the song move on almost immediately to another person, likely causing them further pain. However, the song seems to remind its listener that even though darkness and silence are present, there is still hope for healing and finding love.
In summary, the lyrics of "Lights Out" convey a message about moving on, withstanding rumors and focusing on healing. It addresses the subject of love in a mature, reflective way and encourages the audience to find hope in dark times.

Keep your old and wasted words
I don't want to hear your meaningless apologies
My heart is breaking like you heard
I'm hurting just like you said I would be
But the town has always turned
This town is indifferent to our pain
These lies and made them all burn
The truth has come out and it has destroyed us
Can you feel the leeches bite
Do you feel the negative energy surrounding us?
That boy that she took out tonight
The guy she's with now
He's brave and walking sure
He's confident and knows what he wants
Through all the spots you're working for
Despite your efforts to win her back
When the light is out and words have gone
When no one knows what to say anymore
Let me be the one to try it on
Let me take a chance to fix things

Fun fact: This video was filmed in Parque de Santa Lucía (St. Lucía Park) in Mérida, Yucatán, México, where elderly people use to gather to dance "danzón", a typical cuban music genre. It is most likely that these people never had listened the actual song by Bombay Bicycle Club, but the overlapping of the music to a non-corresponding image makes it beautiful, it is all about enjoying the moment. I live in Mérida, and I can assure you that this is the spirit of our people.

Siempre imaginé que era en Merida, pero nunca exactamente dónde. Gracias por la información. Esta es una de mis canciones favoritas, cuando fui al concierto en cdmx la gente estaba euforica cuando tocaron esta rola.

@helenlewelen
Crawl TheJam It makes me cry too, otherwise I would listen to it more often. :/ It's just so melancholy (is that the right word?)
@crawlthejam
Yes, of course it's a right word to describe this climate...Song is a little bit sad, it's true. But look, those dancing people give you a lot of hope, faith...:)
