Babys
Bon-Iver Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
to multiply
To multiply, ooh
Summer comes
To multiply
To multiply
I'm the Carnival of Peace
I'll probably start a fleet
With no apologies
And the Carnival of Scenes
It grows more and more appealing
But my woman and I
My woman and I know what we're for
Summer comes
To multiply
To multiply
Summer comes
To multiply
To multiply
In the song "Babys" by Bon Iver, the lyrics describe a sense of longing and uncertainty in a relationship. The opening lines suggest that the person is leaving but not locking the door, which could mean they are trying to leave the opportunity for the relationship to continue but are unsure if it will. They don't want to hear keys indicating a final goodbye. They want to leave it open.
The second verse speaks about the idea of taking one's time to enjoy the small, simple pleasures in life. The line "only hold till your coffee warms, but don't hurry and speed" suggests that one should take time to savour the moment instead of rushing through it. It could be interpreted as taking time to appreciate and love someone instead of rushing through things and missing out on quality time.
The final verse references a romantic moment between the two individuals. The idea of a tongue in the ear could be interpreted as a whisper or an intimate moment shared between two people. The line "And you clutched kicking heels" suggests that the moment was powerful and left a lasting impact on the person.

When you're out
When you're leaving
Tell your lucky one
Tell the person who's fortunate enough to be with you
To know that you'll leave
To be aware that you will depart
But you don't lock when you're fleeing
But you don't want to be restrained or held back when you're escaping
I'd like not hear keys
I'd prefer not to hear the sound of keys jingling or locking
Only hold till your coffee warms
Only embrace each other until your coffee is heated
But don't hurry and speed
But take your time and don't rush
One a time put a tongue
One at a time, put your tongue
In your ear on the beach
In your ear, while you're on the beach
And you clutched kicking heels
And you held on to each other tightly while your legs were moving

My sister passed away in 2016. She had autism. She would always bang on the piano until the keys broke because she loved the sound. It made me crazy....angry. I hated it. Listening to this song reminded me of her and for a moment I saw her smile and I heard her laugh and I wish I could see her bang on the piano again. I love this song. I’ll be showing this to my mom. ❤️

This song, crystal beach, staring at the lights on pleasure pier, on 2 tabs, feeling magnificent and pondering where your life is going and the wild ride it has already taken you on. When 2:10 came round I was already crying. I'll never forget that day.

This song has always been underrated by the public. That piano is jammin and Justin's voice sounds really nice. I love Blood Bank.
