RABi
Bon Iver Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(If you wait, it won't be undone)

Well it's all just scared of dying
But isn't this a beach?
And if I know one thing at all
Is I cannot just be a peach
Oh, you come in all woke now
So, please enjoy the feast
We are weightless like a wayless beast
So what is it we don't teach?

When we were children we were hell bent
Or oblivious at least
But now it comes to mind, we are terrified
So we run and hide for a verified little peace

So what of this release?
Sunlight feels good now, don't it?
I don't have a leaving plan
But something's gotta ease your mind
But it's all fine or it's all crime anyway

There were six of us sitting creekside
Sifting fistfuls through the green
Every which way could be seen
Was the sand and time, not a pantomime
More like anodyne
Was a friend of mine you'd've known, you'd've known

I could prophet
I could rob I however
Everywhere isn't everywhere
This not a veil or a fairytale in the least
(So what of this release?)

So what of this release?
Some life feels good now, don't it?
Don't have to have a leaving plan
Nothing's gonna ease your mind
Well it's all fine and we're all fine anyway

(If you wait, it won't be undone)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bon Iver's song "RABi" showcase a contemplative and introspective tone, as they delve into the idea of fear and how it affects a person's life. The opening lines "If you wait, it won't be undone" serve as a warning that once something has been done or said, it cannot be unsaid or undone. The song then goes on to explore the fear of dying and how it affects a person's perspective on life. The metaphor of being at the beach, which is often associated with relaxation and enjoyment, contrasts the sense of dread that is being felt.

The lyrics then shift to reflect on how as children, people were either hell-bent or oblivious, but as they grow older, fear seeps in and they run and hide for a verified little peace. The idea of a verified little peace suggests that people seek validation for their fears rather than confronting them. The song then shifts gears again and talks about the release that comes from sunlight and how it can make you feel good. However, there is no leaving plan and the fear is still present.

The lyrics end on a bright note, acknowledging that despite the fear, everything is fine and everyone is fine anyway. The recurring line "If you wait, it won't be undone" echoes the idea of taking action and not letting fear control you.

Something that will never cease to amaze me about Bon Iver is Justin Vernon’s ability to spin riddles, often grammatically nonsensical lyrics, full of intrigue and mystery, and somehow make it the most relatable story you’ve ever heard.

Thank you for giving me a way to explain it!

This.

@@keysersoze6156 grammatically nonsensical, I said.
