Skinny Love
Bon Iver Lyrics
Come on skinny love just last the year
Pour a little salt we were never here
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer
I tell my love to wreck it all
Cut out all the ropes and let me fall
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Right in this moment this order's tall
And I told you to be fine
And I told you to be balanced
And I told you to be kind
And in the morning I'll be with you
But it will be a different kind
And I'll be holding all the tickets
And you'll be owning all the fines
Come on skinny love, what happened here?
Suckle on the hope in light brassieres
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Sullen load is full, so slow on the split
And I told you to be patient
And I told you to be fine
And I told you to be balanced
And I told you to be kind
And now all your love is wasted
And then who the hell was I?
And I'm breaking at the britches
And at the end of all your lines
Who will love you?
Who will fight?
Who will fall far behind?
Ooh, ooh
Woo, ohh ooh

"Skinny Love" was the first single released from Bon Iver's 2007 debut album "For Emma, Forever Ago" in the United States. The song was released as a single in the United Kingdom on April 28, 2008. While "Skinny Love" has been considered a reference to singer Justin Vernon's relationship with former girlfriend Christy Smith, Vernon countered this as "not entirely accurate [...] it's about that time in a relationship that I was going through; you're in a relationship because you need help, but that's not necessarily why you should be in a relationship. And that's skinny."
The song was used in the second episode of Grey's Anatomy's fifth season. The digital download track "Skinny Love" was selected to be iTunes (UK) single of the week and was available for free during that time, as well as being featured as the track of the day on National Public Radio. On October 6, 2008, "Skinny Love" was featured in the NBC series "Chuck" (season 2, episode 3). On December 11, 2008, Bon Iver performed "Skinny Love" on the Late Show with David Letterman. On January 26, 2009, "Skinny Love" was announced at #21 by the Australian national radio station Triple J in the annual Hottest 100 countdown of the previous year's best songs. In July 2009, "Skinny Love" was announced at #92 in Triple J's Hottest 100 of All Time countdown. In June 2013, "Skinny Love" was announced at #16 in Triple J's Hottest 100 of the Last 20 Years countdown.

What a display of emotions. Don't care guitar. Don't care singing. This is a transformation and exchange of something more private that can never be defined.

I don't understand how anyone can say 'birdy's is so much better'
this is a man who performed a song he wrote in one of the worst times of his life - the song is just raw emotion.
Yeah, Birdy's sounds nice, but you just can't rival the feelings Justin Vernon gives off when he performs this. It's unparalleled

Well , people have different taste , so it's ok tho..
This is my first time hearing the original one and i love it , i can feel the emotion with every lyric He sang.
And also birdy doing very excellent cover , both are loveable 💚💚

@shrimp Yeah, and the OP stated their preference,. For you to say "chill" is hypocritical to what you are saying in itself. So you chill.

This song is not meant for a piano, It's meant for a lonely man in a cabin with an acoustic guitar. Agreed.
Drone Addiction
For me, the original is always the one that holds the magic and the difficult part (the creation). And it's usually the one that sounds better. In this case I feel a little bit on the fence, and not because of Birdy's version. It's because of Bella Ferraro's one (that is based on Birdy's). But of course, If I have to decide... without the original we woudn't be here listening at this beautiful song nor it's covers.

I love this song but I don’t l ow the author’s meaning behind it. Would you please enlighten me?
Abi Keefe
He plays like he can still vividly feel the pain that caused him to write the song.
