Living In Sin
Bon Jovi Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You and me been on some ride
Held off the night 'til the sunrise
Saw the world through a child's eyes
Been in love for a long time

You and me tore the walls down
And built them up in a new town
I used to sing for the whole crowd
Now every song is for you now

Castles may crumble
And fall to the sea

Yeah, we're living in paradise
Yeah, we're living in paradise

Seasons come and seasons go
We planted seeds and we watched them grow
We wrote the book on the highs and lows
We figured out what we didn't know

You give me faith when I'm losing hope
We may have bent but we never broke
The rain can fall and the wind will blow
The sun will shine anywhere we go

I can't remember
Before you and me

Yeah, we're living in paradise
Yeah, we're living in paradise
Summer's gone, it's been a long September
Nothing matters long as we're together
Yeah, we're living in paradise

Come alive, come alive, come alive, come alive
Come alive, come alive, come alive, come alive
From the embers we will rise
And we'll light up the sky

Yeah, we're living in paradise
Yeah, we're living in paradise
Summer's gone, it's been a long September
Nothing matters long as we're together
Yeah, we're living in paradise

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Living in Sin" by Bon Jovi speaks about a relationship between two people who are in love but are seen as living in sin because they are not married. The singer expresses how he doesn't see the need for a license or for a preacher to validate their love for each other. He doesn't need any materialistic things like diamonds or a new bride, all he needs is the love of his partner, and for them to look him in the eye.

The chorus expresses the internal conflict and external pressure the couple faces. The singer asks his partner if it's just them against the world or if the relationship is just a product of the world they live in. He believes that they are living in love, but society sees them as living in sin. The song presents the societal norms, the constant disapproval one may receive from society, and questions whether their love and relationship is valid without societal approvals.

In conclusion, "Living in Sin" by Bon Jovi challenges the societal expectations of relationships and love, as the couple in the song navigate their love for each other amidst societal pressure and disapproval.

Graduated 1988 and this one brings back all the memories. So happy to have grown up in the 80’s. The best decade for rock music. Hairbands rule 👊🏼

@adriantrusca1245

You mean comercial radio pop rock that housekeepers shake their asses to while washing the dishes? Yeah, it's a good thing that thrash, death and black metal were starting to develop in the underground for real metal fans who wanted to be aggressive and avoid this sugary sweet radio shit.

@jdmoncada8205

I adore Richie singing high harmony to Jon. One of my favorite moments of all their songs is this here in the 2nd verse when they sing "when they both turn out the lights." Chills every time.

@jennydeyoung4539

The biggest missing piece is Richie's harmonies and their on stage and sing writing chemistry. I just saw them it still feels empty without Richie there . He was my favorite.

@nicolehein8285

I absolutely agree with you 100% on that. My favorite parts of all their songs are when Richie does what he does so well. 🙂
