In 1994 the band was signed to Capitol Records and released an album entitled Stomp Revival in Mid 1995. The band toured with some major acts during 1995-1996, including Bob Seger and Santana. During these touring years the band also featured Jason Dunaway on bass and Mickey Grimm on drums. During early 1996, Kenny Mims left the band and was replaced by former Walk The West fiddle/mandolin player Tramp. The band's relationship with Capitol soured and they split with the label, releasing their second album, "Traveler's Companion" on their own SuperDuperRecordings imprint. Sometime in late 1996, Jason and Mickey left the band, yet Johnson, Ward and Tramp soldiered on as a three piece. Traveler's Companion continued with their brand of self-described "Power Folk" music and featured a guest vocal appearance by fellow alt-country pioneer Lucinda Williams. In mid-1999 Bryan Ward exited the fold and the band recruited Nick Nguyen to handle guitar duties. Bonepony continued to tour the US and Canada with a break-neck schedule of 200 plus dates a year.
Bonepony's current lineup, Scott Johnson, Nicolas Nguyen, and Kenny Wright is responsible for the bands fourth studio CD, Feeling It. The effort pulls the Bonepony sound more towards the electric rock bands of the seventies, while still managing to stomp their way through rural tracks like "Lonely" and "Farewell". Bonepony is currently on tour in support of their live concert DVD Celebration Highway. Filmed at the Belcourt Theater in Nashville, the release captures the band's energetic live show and feature songs from all of their studio releases as well as unreleased songs seldom performed live. Guest musicians Mickey Grimm, Jason Dunaway and Chris Carmichael make Celebration Highway a memorable Bonepony show.

Fish in the Sea
Bonepony Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There's so many fish in the sea
I just throw 'em back
There's so many fish in the sea
Try to find a keeper
Fishermen listen to me
There's so many fish in the sea
Try to find a keeper
Not a trophy
Not a meal
Not something you hang on your wall
Not something you steal
Not a new girlfriend
Not just feel
Don't you know you ain't got a stringer to fill
There's so many fish in the sea
Just imagine that
There's so many fish in the sea
Try to find a keeper
Fishermen listen to me
They're all so beautiful
There's so many fish in the sea
How do you find a keeper?
You gotta practice
And go to school.
You gotta get out in the world.
You gotta be cool.
You gotta be healthy
And care for your tools
Don't you know you ain't got a stringer to fill
There's so many fish in the sea
I just throw them back
There's so many fish in the sea
Try to find a keeper
Fishermen listen to me
They're all so beautiful
There's so many fish in the sea
Try to find a keeper
Not a trophy
Not a meal
Not something you hang on your wall
Not something you steal
Not a new girlfriend
Not just feel
Don't you know you ain't got a stringer to fill
There's so many fish in the sea
Try to find a keeper
The song "Fish in the Sea" by Bonepony seems to be a metaphorical take on the idea of seeking love and commitment. The lyrics suggest that there are so many potential partners out there, and yet it's important to find one who is worth keeping. Instead of just trying to catch as many fish as possible, the song encourages listeners to be selective and discerning in their choices.
The repeated refrain of "there's so many fish in the sea" can be seen as a reminder that opportunities for love and connection are abundant, and there's no need to settle for someone who doesn't measure up. The lines "Not a trophy / Not a meal / Not something you hang on your wall / Not something you steal" suggest that the search for a partner shouldn't be based on superficial or materialistic qualities, but should instead focus on finding someone who is genuinely compatible.
The song also acknowledges that finding a "keeper" requires effort and discipline, and that it's not just a matter of luck or chance. The lines "You gotta practice / And go to school / You gotta get out in the world / You gotta be cool / You gotta be healthy / And care for your tools" suggest that being a successful fisherman - and by extension, a successful partner - requires dedication and a willingness to learn.
Overall, "Fish in the Sea" is a catchy and upbeat song that encourages listeners to be ambitious in their search for love, while also reminding them to prioritize compatibility and genuine connection.
