Born to a mother who designed clothing and a father who was a web designer. His grandfather was actor Robert Culp. When Bones was 7 years old, his family moved to Howell, Michigan. When he was 16, he dropped out of high school and moved to Los Angeles where his brother, Elliott, had already been living.

In 2014, Bones self-released 5 mixtapes through his label TeamSesh, including Garbage, which received coverage and critical acclaim from notable publications including The Fader, Pigeons & Planes, and RESPECT.

Bones and his manager Elliott O’Connor, who is also his brother, have both stated that major labels have shown interest in signing him but he has declined up to this point. According to Max Bell of LA Weekly, "interested labels wanted him to be their 'white rapper,' an artist along the lines of Mac Miller and Machine Gun Kelly. But Bones wasn't interested in being remade.

With the delivery of a storefront preacher, The Man Named Bones (the alter ego of one Michael Miller) sings, screams and growls Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll with tongue firmly in cheek. Armed with an upright bass, an electric guitar, a sampler and a drum machine, Bones is a one man blues/punk machine.

In Bones's song "DeathMetal," the lyrics paint a dark and haunting picture of a toxic relationship that is driven by self-destructive behaviors and substance abuse. The chorus repeats the mantra "None of my bitches like rappers, she overdose on my mattress," emphasizing the singer's disconnection from typical romantic relationships and the destructive nature of his encounters. The imagery of death metal music blasting and the slow, tragic demise of the woman add to the bleak and ominous atmosphere of the song.
The verses delve deeper into the singer's mindset, as he describes flipping the bed and burning the sheets, symbolizing the chaotic and destructive nature of his lifestyle. The references to drug use, pill-popping, and the woman slowly dying highlight the theme of self-destruction and the blurred lines between pleasure and pain in his world. The imagery of her eyes being gone and her being half asleep and half awake further underscores the disorienting and intoxicating effects of their destructive behavior.
The singer's cavalier attitude towards the woman's suffering is evident in lines like "Pop pill, she dyin' slow, she so high, those eyes gone" and "Dinner time, she passed her plate, she popped an X and she fucking me," portraying a reckless and callous disregard for her well-being. The references to resurrection and the woman bowing down to him add a surreal and almost religious undertone to their dysfunctional dynamic, hinting at a power play and control in their relationship.
Overall, "DeathMetal" delves into themes of addiction, self-destruction, and toxic relationships, painting a bleak and haunting portrait of a dark and tumultuous world where pleasure and pain are intertwined. The intense imagery and chilling atmosphere created by Bones's lyrics convey a sense of unease and discomfort, inviting listeners to reflect on the destructive nature of certain relationships and the consequences of reckless behavior.
