Clap Your Hands
Bonnie St. Claire Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What I want to say was it yesterday
That I saw you also here
Yes I know you tried close by my side
To draw my attention dear
But you understand that I really can′t
Not come in touch with you
But if you really will if you want it still
I'll tell you what you have to do
Well clap your hands
Umm and stamp your feet
And I′ll come running
Running running baby
Well clap your hands
Ohh and stamp your feet
And I'll come running
Running wait and see
Huma lalala ... huma lala ... huma lalalala
Huma lalala ... huma lala ... huma lalalala
Well it's great to see that you want just me
And I think I′m the happiest girl
That you ever met just be sure of that
I like to tell it the whole wide world
Every moment dear I wanna be near
I wished I had a crystal ball
So that immediately I knew you need me
By doing our strange way to call
Well clap your hands
Umm and stamp your feet
And I′ll come running
Running running baby
Well clap your hands
Whoo and stamp your feet
And I'll come running
Running wait and see
Ohh whoo ...
Huma lalala huma lala huma lalalala
Huma lalala huma lala huma lalalala
Huma lalala huma lala huma lalalala
Huma lalala huma lala huma lalalala

So clap your hands ... huma lalala huma lala huma lalalala
And stamp your feet

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bonnie St. Claire's "Clap Your Hands" is a playful invitation to the person she likes to show their affection for her by clapping their hands and stamping their feet. She reminisces about seeing this person around her and how she knows they have been trying to get her attention. Bonnie admits that she cannot resist their charms but also tells them that they have to take the initiative if they want to be with her. She desires to be near them every moment and wishes to have a crystal ball to know when they need her. The chorus emphasizes that if they want her, all they have to do is clap their hands and stamp their feet, and she will come running.

Released on Polydor in the U.S. It was still the worst of times in terms of mainstream music. But I happened upon a copy of this 45 at the time. My first thought was, "Maybe there IS hope after all". Variations on a theme by Slade, to be certain. Bonnie went on to perform as a duo with the utterly stupendous Jose Hoebee from Luv', as a tribute of sorts to Abba. For my money, both Luv' and Bonnie/Unit Gloria are right up there with them.

Hi Peter, if you saw Dickie rock in the 60s he was fronting the Miami in the early days. Around 1972 they changed as dickie rock went onto a solo career. If you enjoy their later sound check out the album's ,Miami Country and reflections of Fran O'Toole, that were recorded before July 1975 .The band were attacked on the way back from a show in Banbridge resulting in carnage and loss of life.
