Illumination
Bordello Gogol Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't believe them for a moment
For a second, do not believe, my friend
When you are down, them are not coming
With a helping hand
Of course there is no us and them
But them they do not think the same
It's them who do not think the same
It's them who do not think

They never step on spiritual path
They paint their faces so differently from ours
And if you listen closely
That war it never stops
That war it never stops
That war

Be them new Romans
Don't envy them my friend
Be their lives longer
Oh, their longer lives are spent
Without a love or faithful friend
All those things they have to rent
Yeah, all those things they have to rent
All those things

But we who see our destiny
In sound of this same old punk song
Let rest originality for sake of passing it around
Illuminating realization number one
You are the only light there is
For yourself my friend
You are the only light there is
For yourself my friend
For yourself my friend
For yourself my friend

There'll be no saviors any soon coming down
And anyway illuminations
Never come from the crowned
Illuminating realization number one
You are the only light there is
For yourself my friend
You are the only light there is
For yourself my friend

But we who see our destiny
In sound of this same old punk song
Let rest originality for sake of passing it around
Illuminating realization number one
You are the only light there is
For yourself my friend
You are the only light there is
For yourself my friend
For yourself my friend
For yourself my friend

For yourself my friend
For yourself my friend

Overall Meaning

The song "Illumination" by Gogol Bordello is a song that speaks about the contrast and tension between two groups of people - "us" and "them." The lyrics suggest that people often divide themselves into different groups based on a variety of factors, including religion, ethnicity, and social class. However, the song urges us not to believe in this division, as it only leads to more conflict and misery.

The song suggests that those who see themselves as part of the group "them" often live empty and meaningless lives. They have all the material possessions they desire, but they lack real love or loyal friends. This is contrasted with those who see themselves as part of the group "us," who find meaning in music and other forms of self-expression.

The song's overall message is one of self-empowerment. It tells us that we are the only light we need, and that we should not expect salvation or help from anyone else. It urges us to look within ourselves for the strength to confront the darkness in the world.

Overall, the song is a thought-provoking commentary on human nature and the ways in which we divide ourselves from others. It is a call to action for us to recognize our own power and create meaning in our lives through self-expression and creativity.

I dedicate this song to Sarah Roncskevitz, who I meet two years ago on Gogol Bordello gig. She was amazing person, social worker and mother. She died today, she was only 32 years old.We knew each other very shortly but she left such good impact on me and my brother..it just saddens me to the core that life is so fragile and tomorrow is not promised to us. My friend I hope you are in better place.. Rest in love 💜💜💜💜💜💜🕉🕉🕉🕉🕉🕉
