The Afterlife
Borealis Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It becomes in time
Will we ever find the path
Or keep on walking blind
The meaning hides deep in rhyme
We search on in vain
Time has come
To the afterlife we fall
Take my hand and heed the call
Find the truth inside of you
I′m only a whisper away
The great divide will separate
Me from you and now
Don't give in, resist the hate
Free your mind from all
Tomorrow holds a brand new life
Once again the sun will set
Look once more to the starry skies
And we′re together
The opening lines of "The Afterlife" suggest a certain fatalism, as the singer of the song seems to accept that all of life's experiences will eventually be reduced to "ash." The following lines a question is posed, about whether or not we as individuals will ever find the path, or continue to move forward in blindness. The message here seems to be one of the struggle to determine our own individual paths in life, and how that search can sometimes feel hopeless.
The next lines continue this theme, with an admission that the meaning of life (or perhaps the meaning intended in this song) is hidden within language and rhyme, and we are helpless to find it. The refrain "To the afterlife we fall" is repeated throughout that song and suggests a certain relief in the idea that after this life is over, there is another waiting for us. The idea is further elaborated on later in the song when the singer suggests that, after death, they will be "only a whisper away" and encouraging the listener to find "the truth inside of you."
Overall, the song seems to suggest that life may be difficult, but there is comfort in the idea of an afterlife or some kind of continuation beyond this world. The message for those who are still living is to keep searching for their purpose in life and to resist hatred and negativity along the way, and to embrace the brand new life that is promised to us all.

Another hearty slice of uplifting, traditional, progressive melodic metal for us to sink our teeth into. This is real roll down your window with your hair in the wind music, stripped down happy progcore like Fates Warning - Parallels.
Thank you for bringing trad prog metal back from the brink of the orchestra pit!
