But remember folks "Boston" wasn't really a band per se It ALWAYS was Tom
's creation all the way from songwriting to playing EVERY instrument. The only other "instrument" is Brad's fantastic voice and was the only person Tom gave away any control over his performances. In short Boston should have been called something like "The Tom Scholz project" or something coz Tom IS Boston and vice-versa.

This song makes me emotional ( which in my case, rarely happens), especially at 5:24. Brad really song his heart out from 5:18-5:24; but when the guitar strings powerful that add more effect come in, it makes the words “a man I’ll never be,” more powerful. I love this song, and I love to listen to it when I go down long curvy roads. 🙂

@Joe N., you are so right, I am married to a woman who dated an Iranian medical student for five years while she was in Japan studying, according to her, he was the most intelligent and cultured man that she had ever met and he spoke five languages, I am assuming that they were intimate during the five years that they dated, she finished her studies before him and moved back to her home country in South America, she waited for a year and a half to hear from him and she found out from a friend who was still studying in Japan that he had married someone from his country, she then flew to Japan to confront him and he simply used the excuse was that he was forced to marry his wife by his mother and that he never told my wife anything about him being married because he did not want to hurt her!! We have been married going on 18 years and somehow in the back of my mind, I feel like my wife thinks that I do not measure up to that God of a man that decided to marry someone else!!

I am now 57 and those days come back to me now with tears in my eyes. So much has happened-two divorces, death of a son and fighting illness. Absolutely my favorite song ever. As teenager when Boston took on the rock world they gained my respect and supreme admiration. The feelings many have when they are young bring on the questions of "will I ever be enough" are forces to be reckoned with. All these years later and knowing what I know today, Brad felt this song in a way many didn't know at the time, he suffered greatly with depression and it ultimately took his life. He was found with a letter attached to his shirt that said "I Am A Lonely Soul". Brad, rest in peace man, you are no longer a lonely soul.

One of rock n rolls greatest voices ever! Brad delps voice and Boston songs will be forever timeless! They will grace the airways for decades if not centurys to come!! Some songs will makes you do 90 in your car while singing while others will make you cry along with the guitar. Brads voice was the highlight for sure. For Boston fans who have not experienced brad singing the Beatles as good if not better than Lennon and McCartney search BEATLEJUICE! You will fall in love with brad all over again. I'll never forget the day we lost brad. I was in Myrtle beach SC driving a triAxle dump truck listening and thoroughly enjoying a lunchtime block of Boston. When the block ended the DJ said yes a block of Boston as we mourn the loss of lead singer brad delps today....... I went numb! I had to pull the truck over! I just sat there in disbelief! Boston was one of my all time favorites and the day brad died a small part of me died. Nearly 15 years later I still tear up if the right song and circumstance come together. RIP Brad..... You are missed
