Everything is Ordinary
Boston Manor Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Run, run away. It's easier than doing something.
I'll take the blame, it's easier than doing something.
We're burning everything for the thrill of it.
Don't try to stop me, don't try to stop me.
Just take your medicine, you won't feel anything.
Don't try to stop me.

Everything is ordinary now.

I'll spill my guts but I don't wanna ruin this new carpet.
Hey whats the rush? Don't leave now we're getting started.
We're burning everything for the thrill of it.
Don't try to stop me, don't try to stop me.
Just take your medicine, you won't feel anything.
Don't try to stop me.

Everything is ordinary now.

Put on your plastic smile.
Why don't we hide in the grey for a while?
Are we just comfortably numb?
Look what you could've been, what you could've become.
We're burning everything for the thrill of it.
Don't try to stop me, don't try to stop me.
Just take your medicine, you won't feel anything.
Don't try to stop me.

Everything is ordinary now.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Boston Manor's song Everything is Ordinary convey a feeling of dissatisfaction and a desire for something more exciting. The verses describe an individual who chooses to run away from their problems and take the blame instead of trying to take action. The chorus then emphasizes the idea that everything in life has become mundane and lacks excitement. The bridge delves into the concept of hiding behind a fake smile and wondering if one is just numb to life's experiences. The overall tone of the song conveys a sense of restlessness and a desire for change.

The lines "We're burning everything for the thrill of it" and "Don't try to stop me" suggest a rebellious streak and a willingness to ignore the consequences of one's actions. This can be interpreted as a call to break out of the monotony of everyday life and seek thrilling experiences. However, the lyrics also suggest that this desire comes with a cost and that the individual is aware that their actions may cause harm.

The lyrics also touch on the theme of missed opportunities and the idea of potential. The line "Look what you could've been, what you could've become" implies that the individual has not fulfilled their potential and is lamenting what could have been. This is a common feeling that many people experience, and the song can serve as a reminder to take action and not let potential go to waste.

Think this song is great.
Think the vocal effect and where it sits in the mix does kill the tune a bit, facts.
Drums a lil too loud for my liking too but not too bad tbf.

First listen you just think it sounds awful.

Give it a few listens and it’s an absolute banger, just need to get more familiar.

The vocal effects have ruined it as a single, but not as a song. Bangs.
Just needs too many listens to like for it to be a single

Are bands not allowed to experiment and have fun with their sound anymore? Just because a song has some effects on the vocals and the instrumentals doesn't mean its necessarily bad.

I'm all for this style, works really fucking well for Boston Manor and it'll sound fucking huge live

@Travis Delee I really doubt they're going to go all out with this sound, liquid is also on this album which is basically a continuation of the WTTNH sound.

"It's great, but we cant do a whole album of distorted distortion" is pretty much what we are saying. Be Nothing and Welcome are two completely different albums, as this will be. I just can't fathom this as a whole album. Still going to buy it. I have all their stuff.

I love how you can tell BM are taking a lot of influence from bands like Nine Inch Nails, that drum sound is almost identical to March of Pigs. As for Henry's vocals.. Its not autotune its going though some other kind of FX which sounds great

Mitch Young

Hey what are you doing here??

There is pitch correction.. even in the older albums. It's only more noticeable now because of the lofi effect on the vocals but most bands now a days would use pitch correction even if the singer is good. It's just a standard in audio production now a days. In terms of the actual sound... it's awesome. I love the combination of that lofi sound from nine inch nails with their normal sound. it sounds so different from a lot of bands in the same scene. These guys are really separating themselves from the pack in a good way.

Instead of Nine Inch Nails I read "Nails" and was a bit confused

As someone with epilepsy that enjoys a lot of music with really flashy music videos I thank you guys for the seizure warning since nobody else ever has it.

I love the new stuff you guys are releasing as well. Keep doing what you're doing 🖤

Reading comments on this legit blows my mind. I think it's one of their coolest songs, they feel much more relaxed and energetic at the same time instead of pigeonholed like they were on the last album. Plus Liquid is on this album so you know the album's gonna be varied as hell. Legit don't get the complaints, it's an interesting approach and I hope the album has even more craziness like this.

f0x Ah, okay.
