Botellita de Jerez se distingue siempre por un enfoque musical festivo e irreverente, celebrando la cultura de lo naco e integrando sketches y albures en sus letras y presentaciones. Su estilo, un rock sencillo y directo, se combinaba con ritmos tan dispares como el son, el blues y la cumbia, además de letras con una buena dosis de sátira que retrataban la cotidianeidad de la vida urbana en México y elementos de cultura popular de ese país.
Pese a que cuando se formó la banda el rock mexicano era un movimiento mayoritariamente subterráneo, Botellita de Jerez produjo temas bastante exitosos, siendo la mejor muestra de ello "Alármala de Tos", de su disco debut, canción que ha sido interpretado por numerosos artistas, entre ellos Café Tacvba.
Después de 3 discos, Sergio Arau deja la agrupación en 1988, y en su lugar se integran Santiago Ojeda (guitarra y voz), Benjamín Alarcón (teclados) y el Sr. González (percusiones y voz). Los cambios resultaron en una variación en el estilo de la banda, produciendo por un lado temas más pretenciosos y por el otro algunos más irreverentes pero menos ingeniosos. Esto resultó en el alejamiento de muchos de sus seguidores, aunque la banda siguió trabajando regularmente hasta su desintegración en 1997.

The song "Charrock and Roll" by Botellita De Jerez tells the story of an unexpected encounter between two different worlds.
