Why everybody is trying to be
Living like a celebrity
Doing what they see on MTV
Ice is cool but I'm looking for more,
Simple things is what my heart beats for
(Cause that's me)
I don't ask for much
Havin' you is enough
You ain't got to buy nothing
It's not what I want
Baby it's you,
We don't have to go nowhere
It's not what I want
Baby it's you,
It's not for what you got
I know you got a lot
No matter what you do,
You always keep hot,
It's you, it's you, baby all I want is you yeah
It don't matter that your car is fly
And your rims are spinning on the side n'
It don't matter where we go tonight
Cause if I'm with you I'll be alright
That's cool but I'm looking for more
It's your love that my heart beats for
(Cause that's me)
Don't have to spend a dime
(baby)
I just want your time
You ain't got to buy nothing
It's not what I want
Baby it's you,
We don't have to go nowhere
It's not what I want
Baby it's you,
It's not for what you got
I know you got a lot
No matter what you do,
You always keep hot,
It's you, it's you, baby all I want is you yeah
Oh, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah
You ain't got to buy nothing
It's not what I want
Baby it's you,
We don't have to go nowhere
It's not what I want
Baby it's you,
It's not for what you got
I know you got a lot
No matter what you do,
You always keep hot,
It's you, it's you, baby all I want is you yeah
The lyrics to Bow Wow's "Baby It's You" is essentially a love song that differentiates itself from other love songs that focus on material possessions as a sign of love or status. Bow Wow is questioning why everyone is trying to live like a celebrity and do what they see on MTV. He recognizes that while ice (jewelry) may be cool, he desires something more human and less materialistic. The simple things in life are what his heart beats for. He doesn't ask for much—he just needs his significant other. He affirms that having them is enough for him, and he doesn't need anything else.
The chorus of the song reinforces this point by repeating that he does not need anything, and having his significant other is enough. He believes that even if he were in flashy cars and going to exclusive places, he would still be happy as long as he's with his significant other. He only wants their time, and their love is the most important thing to him.
