They are best known for their singles "Girl All The Bad Guys Want" in 2002 on Drunk Enough to Dance which was nominated for a 2003 Grammy Award for "Best Pop Performance by a Group or Duo" and "1985" (originally written by Mitch Allan of SR-71) in 2004 on A Hangover You Don't Deserve. Speaking with Songfacts about "Girl All The Bad Girls Want" in a 2010 interview, Reddick said: "'Girl All The Bad Guys Want' was my very first co-write ever, and me and Butch Walker sat in a room and literally wrote that song in 30 minutes. I mean, it was done."
The band's name is derived from comedian Steve Martin's "Bowling for Sh*t" routine from his 1978 comedy album, Wild and Crazy Guy, itself a reference to Bowling for Dollars. Jaret Reddick has also stated that at the end of his last performance with his old band one of the members came on stage and proclaimed "Come back next week when we play with our new band... BOWLING FOR SOUP!". This was supposed be to be joke name, but since they couldn't think of anything better the name stuck. Their single '1985' can be found on the UK and the Norwegian editions of Singstar Rocks for the PS2.
They have also became hits on Radio Disney with edits of "1985", "Punk Rock 101", "High School Never Ends", and the inclusion of their version of "I Melt With You" in the Disney movie "Sky High". They have also written and recorded "Today is Gonna Be a Great Day" as the theme song for Disney's "Phineas and Ferb"

Bowling for Soup Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And you're so happy again to be stuck here again
Now we can rap about "the good old days"
Laugh at dumb jokes that you make
It's great to be here and
I'm just elated to be someone you once hated
And its all so complicated
Make out with another girl
If it were up to me
I'd like to buy you flowers everyday
Make everyday a holiday
Carry on and on and on about you and the things you do
The things you do
I'm so sorry again you say you're leaving me again
'Cause you're not happy again
And I'm left stuck here again
Now you can scream about the little things
Slap me twice across the face
Man it would be great if I could
I'd like to buy you flowers everyday
Make everyday a holiday
Carry on and on and on about you and the things you do
The things you do
I'd like to buy you flowers everyday
Make everyday a holiday
Carry on and on and on about you and the things you do
The things you do
Quisiera comprarle que las flores diarias
Hacen diario un día de fiesta
Continuar why en why en alrededor usted
Why las cosas usted hare las cosas usted lo hare
I'd like to buy you flowers everyday
Make everyday a holiday
Carry on and on and on about you and the things you do
The things you do
The lyrics to Bowling for Soup's "On And On" seem quite ironic at first glance. At the beginning of the song, the singer expresses happiness to be stuck in the same situation again with the person they are addressing. They reminisce about the good old days, laugh at each other's jokes, and seem to enjoy being together. However, the singer also mentions that they are happy to be someone that the addressee hated before, indicating that there may be some underlying tension or past issues that they are trying to move past. The second verse adds more complexity to the situation, as the singer apologizes for the addressee leaving once again, despite seeming happy earlier. The singer seems frustrated by this, but at the same time expresses a desire to shower the addressee with love and attention, even suggesting that they "make out with another girl" if it means they can be happy.
The rest of the song repeats the same chorus, with the singer expressing a desire to buy the addressee flowers every day and make every day a holiday. They want to talk about the addressee and the things they do "on and on and on". It's clear that the singer is deeply infatuated with the addressee, but it's also unclear whether their feelings are reciprocated. The Spanish lyrics at the end of the song add yet another layer of complexity to the emotional landscape of the song, as the addressee may or may not speak Spanish, the language of the lyrics.
Overall, "On And On" is a song about the complexities of romantic relationships and the often-mixed signals that people send in those situations. The singer wants to express their affection for the addressee, but they also seem to have some resentments and frustrations that they are working through. The chorus, with its repetition and insistence, suggests that the singer is not ready to give up on the relationship just yet, despite the ups and downs.
