Turbulence
Bowling for Soup Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's so hard to figure out
Which way to turn
There's no going back now
All your bridges burned
The stars are gonna shine on you
If you can get through the day
Storm clouds all around you
But a blue sky's on the way

And we're all just passengers tonight
And we're all just traveling through our lives
We will reach our destination
So just hang on for the ride
Say a prayer and close your eyes
It's just a little turbulence

Take a look around you
Look how far you've come
Your whole life in front of you
You've only just begun
We've all got our problems
But they're just bumps in the road
If you only keep on fighting (if you only keep on fighting)
There's no where you can't go

And we're all just passengers tonight
And we're all just traveling through our lives
We will reach our destination
So just hang on for the ride
Say a prayer and close your eyes (say a prayer and close your eyes)
It's just a little turbulence

This life can be so crazy
Can spin out of control
But I hope that all your dreams come true
'Cause you know that you're amazing
And no matter where you go
I'll be there for you
We can make it through

And we're all just passengers tonight
And we're all just traveling through our lives
We will reach our destination
So just hang on for the ride
Say a prayer and close your eyes (say a prayer and close your eyes)
It's just a little turbulence (it's just a little turbulence)

And we're all just passengers tonight (it's just a little turbulence)
And we're all just traveling through our lives
We will reach our destination (we will reach our destination )
So just hang on for the ride (hang on for the ride)

Say a prayer and close your eyes (say a prayer and close your eyes)
It's just a little turbulence

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bowling for Soup's song Turbulence are about the unpredictability of life and the challenges that come our way, but also about finding the strength to hold on and keep moving forward. The opening lines show the confusion that can come with facing difficult decisions or situations - it's hard to know which way to turn and there's no going back. However, there is a glimmer of hope in the idea that "the stars are gonna shine on you" if you can make it through the day. The metaphorical storm clouds all around imply that there are many obstacles and hardships to face, but a blue sky is on the way, suggesting that things will get better with time.

The chorus repeats the idea that we are all just passengers traveling through our lives, and that we will reach our destination if we just hang on for the ride. The in-flight metaphor of "a little turbulence" suggests that the challenges we face are just temporary bumps in the road, and that we can get through them if we stay strong and have faith. The next verse encourages the listener to look how far they've come, reminding them that they have their whole life ahead of them and that they can overcome anything with determination.

The final verse is more personal, with the singer expressing his hope that the listener's dreams come true and his promise to be there for them no matter where they go. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus to reinforce the message that life may be unpredictable and turbulent, but we are all in it together and can make it through.

The fact that this video has barely any views annoys me. This song and band are fucking awesome. One of their best in my opinion.

@forestfire47

Seriously. Usually the best bands have so little fame.

@208getalife

That's because Fishin' is not only extremely off-tone for the band overall, it was just Jaret avoiding doing his country project three years early.
I don't blame people for not caring for this one.

@alanbdee

I love that a band that is mostly known for goofy songs produces some incredibly serious and somber songs. Kind of like Blink 182 and Adam's Song.

@aquariusvesta9375

Was feeling extremely down and listening to circle because of recent losses last year and then I discovered this <3

@stfuytp

How you feeling??

@moxiemu21

honestly, this song has gotten me through depression, breakups, stress, and countless other things. I hate that bowling for soup gets almost no recognition from alot of people. I know you guys are under appreciated, but "just hang on for the ride" like this song has allowed me to do, i love you guys, BFS for life <3

@PopPunkFan87

Every Time I tell someone my favorite band is Bowling for Soup. They either say "who is that" or "I listened to them about 6 years ago" They are the greatest band ever. And I think most people just dont know of them to understand how truely amazing they are

@manyshadesofmedia3601

Happy to report they still are the best around

@bandmusic101

They can literally do anything. That is talent.
