Rocket Man
BoySetsFire Lyrics

Zero hour, nine a.m.
And I'm gonna be high
As a kite by then
I miss the earth so much
I miss my wife
It's lonely out in space
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
'Til touchdown brings me 'round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Ah, no no no...
I'm a rocket man
Rocket man
Burnin' out his fuse
Up here alone
Mars ain't the kind of place
To raise your kids
In fact, it's cold as hell
And there's no one there to raise them
If you did
And all this science
I don't understand
It's just my job
Five days a week
A Rocket Man
Rocket Man
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
'Til touchdown brings me 'round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Ah, no no no...
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
'Til touchdown brings me 'round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Ah, no no no...
I'm a rocket man
Rocket man
Burnin' out his fuse
Up here alone
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
Long, long, time
Long, long, time
Ah, no, no, no...
Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no...
The opening verse of BoySetsFire's song "Rocket Man" speaks to the isolated and otherworldly existence of an astronaut, about to embark on a mission into space. The singer feels a sense of anticipation and excitement for the flight, despite the longing for his life back on Earth. The second verse speaks to the realities of the barren and inhospitable planet of Mars, and how it is not an ideal setting for human life. The chorus repeats the refrain that the singer is a "rocket man," burning out his fuse as he travels further into space.
Throughout the song, the theme of disconnection and feeling out of place is persistent. The astronaut's job as a "rocket man" is both an exciting and daunting prospect, as he grapples with the distance between himself and the world he left behind. The line "I'm not the man they think I am at home" hints at the idea that the singer is disconnected both from himself and the expectations of those around him.
Overall, "Rocket Man" speaks to the metaphorical isolation that can come with working in fields such as science or technology, where the hours and effort put in can leave one feeling distant from loved ones and the rest of the world. It also speaks to the inherent bravery of taking risks and pushing boundaries, even when it means leaving one's comfort zone and sense of stability behind.

There was a licensing dispute between the band, the label, and Elton John's "people" at one point in time, so there are a LOT of copies of "Before The Eulogy" wherein "Rocket Man" has been replaced by "Timothy." They can kiiiinda get away with it, since "Timothy" was a bonus track on "After The Eulogy" anyway, but it is still annoying, yes. It has actually become such that if you buy anything but the vinyl pressing of "Suckerpunch Training" you end up with either "Timothy" or no third track.

Here's what I don't understand: they have a song on their album "Before The Eulogy" called Rocket Man, but it just turns out to be "Timothy." Is that just a lazy mistake?

'@sorenlarrington --the cover plays correctly on my album. Yours must be defective. "Timothy" isn't even on that album. That's an interesting mistake. Wonder what happened. lol
