Blood To Gold
Boy & Bear Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Take my home, treat it as your own.
My mother told me don't you run away,
Because it takes a man to keep them hungry,
But I'm so damn cold,
And if this blood don't turn to gold
I think I'm doomed.
Ooh, Yeah.
The time has come my friend to run,
I bid you please to take the roses an the loaded gun I left you
'Cause I'm hopin' now you find somehow
That I'm so damn cold,
And if this blood don't turn to gold,
I think I'm doomed.
Ooh, Yeah.
The lyrics to Boy & Bear's song Blood To Gold touch on the themes of struggle and perseverance. The opening lines, "Won't you run underneath the door, Take my home, treat it as your own" convey a sense of desperation and the desire to escape. The singer is giving up his home to someone else, perhaps as a way to cut ties with the past and start anew. The reference to running "underneath the door" suggests a fear of being trapped, which ties in with the idea of running away.
The lyrics then move on to talk about the singer's mother and the lessons she taught him. The line "Because it takes a man to keep them hungry" suggests the idea of sacrifice and perseverance in the face of adversity. The singer is struggling to maintain his resolve, however, as he admits "But I'm so damn cold," a line that conveys the sense of isolation and hopelessness that he is feeling. The line "And if this blood don't turn to gold, I think I'm doomed" suggests that there is a finite amount of time for the singer to pull through and find success.
The chorus repeats the line "Ooh, Yeah" and emphasizes the uncertainty and desperation of the singer. The bridge heralds a call to action, as the singer urges his friend to "take the roses and the loaded gun" and to continue on the journey in his place. The lines "That I'm so damn cold, And if this blood don't turn to gold, I think I'm doomed" are repeated here, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
Overall, the lyrics of Blood to Gold paint a picture of struggle, perseverance, and the importance of making hard choices in order to get ahead.
