They also wrote a number of songs for other artists. Most famous are their two number one hits written for Whitney Houston, "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" and "How Will I Know". They also wrote the songs "Don't Tell Me We Have Nothing" and "Haunting Me" for Deniece Williams and the song "I Know You By Heart", performed by Bette Midler on the Beaches soundtrack. The duo also performed backing vocals on Deniece Williams' number one hit, "Let's Hear It For The Boy".
In the early 2000s, George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam divorced, but they continued their musical collaboration. In 2003 the duo released their fourth album, The Wonderground, on their own label, and arranged for RCA Records to re-release their two RCA albums.

And left holds it tight
And you hold in your hand our love
You let it fall from the right
I fell for the love and it cost me
Another painful night
This time I'm afraid you lost me
And without a fight
Girl it's so strange, now my life's rearranged
How you want to say goodbye again- oh
Girl it's so strange, how your feelings can change
Are they real or they only pretend?
Oh girl I don't need you, I never want to see you
Do you understand?
Oh girl I don't need you, I never want to see you
Do you understand?
Oh girl I don't need you, I never want to see you
Do you understand?
And now that you have my heart
You walk away
One thing we never learned is
How to make love stay
Love is a lethal weapon
If you use it wrong
You carry with you my affection
But it's true we don't belong
Girl it's so strange, now my life's rearranged
How you want to say goodbye again- oh
Girl it's so strange, how your feelings can change
Are they real or they only pretend?
Oh girl I don't need you, I never want to see you
Do you understand?
Oh girl I don't need you, I never want to see you
Do you understand?
Oh girl I don't need you, I never want to see you
Do you understand?
Oh girl I don't need you, I never want to see you
Do you understand?
Oh girl I don't need you, I never want to see you
Do you understand?
You hold in your hand a diamond
And left held it tight
Oh, you held in your hand our love
It fell from the right
In closing I remind you
Don't be callous with a heart
Love is just one step behind you,
You'll wait for it if you're smart
The song "Oh Girl" by Boy Meets Girl tells the story of a relationship that has fallen apart due to a lack of commitment and trust. The lyrics describe how the love that was once held tightly between the two individuals has been let go, and how the singer has been hurt by this loss. The singer feels betrayed and confused by their partner's changing feelings, and they are struggling to come to grips with this reality. The chorus states that the singer no longer wants to see their partner and does not need them in their life.
The song's verses focus on the diamond and how the singer has been hurt by their partner's actions. The diamond is a metaphor for the love that they once shared, and it shows how it was held by both hands and then let go. This imagery is used to show the fragility of love and how easily it can be lost if not treated with care. The singer is hurt by their partner's actions and feels that they have been taken for granted.
The chorus repeats the same message, emphasizing the singer's feelings of hurt and confusion. The lyrics express the singer's desire to move on from the relationship and not see their partner again. Overall, the song is a poignant reflection on the fragility of love and how it can be lost without trust, communication, and commitment.

How was this not a bigger hit in 1985? Wonderful, excellent song.
@conan5885
Agreed!!
Their first 1985 album is pure Pop gold

You're welcome. Funny thing -- when I put this up, I wrote to the contact link on the Boy Metts Girl website for permission. What I got back was a lovely note from Shannon Rubicam herself (the girl in this video on whom I've had a crush for 23 years) thanking me profusely, because they didn't have it themselves. I just assumed that the artists would have all this stuff. Shannon's note literally made my week, and I'm so happy I was able to help the group out.

Wow! This was a really neat story. I've heard from other Boy Meets Girl listeners that Shannon is fabulous when it comes to actually communicating with fans, and is a down-to-earth, humble person. I was surprised, though, that even she didn't have this amazing video on hand, so thanks again for posting it, as well!!

Awesome story! I recall being attracted to her too when this song was out in the summer 1985. Wasn’t on the radio for long so had buy the the 45. Still have it!

What I also think is so interesting is how they transitioned from TOTAL 80s fashion (hair, clothes) to a pared down look by Waiting For A Star just four years later. Wonder if that was always their look but had to conform in the 80s. Same with Aimee Mann when she was with Til Tuesday.

Talk about talent that never got their due this is one of the most sadly forgotten and underrated and talented songwriting teams of the 80s that never got their true respect

There's nothing more 80's than this video!
