He attended the University of Virginia, where he became a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.[1] While there, he started participating in regular musical jam sessions. In the early 1990s, he formed the Boyd Tinsley Trio, which lasted only a couple of years.
In 1991 Dave Matthews asked him to play violin on the song "Tripping Billies" with his band for their demo tape. Tinsley eventually joined the band, abandoning the Boyd Tinsley Trio, and has remained with them to date.

Perfect World
Boyd Tinsley Lyrics

Most of those problems that they cannot seem to get along
If there were problems there, can't they solve them now
Although you may not comprehend
Peace is fought for in the end
It's not a perfect world
I don't want to lie
Sometimes it makes me cry
Will there be such a day when peace comes to stay
With all the problems in the world
I can't tell you that it would
Don't they know that through peace we could change the world
It's seems to me they know no more
That peace is what they're fighting for
It's not a perfect world
I don't want to lie
Sometimes it makes me laugh
Sometimes it makes me cry
I'm beginning to wonder why
I won't tell no lie
I just don't know why
No matter how I try
I wonder why
I wonder why
When I'm grown and a man, will I fight a war
I hope there'll be no wars by then
But the fight for peace may never end
It's not a perfect world
I don't want to lie
Sometimes it makes me laugh
Sometimes it makes me cry
It's not a perfect world
I don't want to lie
Sometimes it makes me laugh
Sometimes it makes me cry
It's not a perfect world
I don't want to lie
It's not a perfect world
I don't want to lie
It's not a perfect world
I don't want to lie
It's not a perfect world
The lyrics of Boyd Tinsley's "Perfect World" deal with the concept of war and the pursuit of peace in a world that is far from perfect. The opening lines of the song suggest a sense of confusion and frustration about war and its purpose. Tinsley acknowledges that there are problems that cannot be solved easily, but also expresses a belief that peace is fought for in the end.
Throughout the song, Tinsley questions why peace seems so elusive and why people continue to fight wars despite knowing that peace is what they're fighting for. He wonders if there will be a day when peace will come to stay and shares his hope that he won't have to fight a war when he's grown.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the imperfect nature of the world and how it can make us feel both happy and sad. Tinsley seems to be grappling with the idea that he can't fully understand or explain why the world is the way it is, but he continues to hope and search for answers.
Overall, "Perfect World" is a song that highlights the complexity of war, peace, and the human desire for a better world. It's a song that encourages listeners to reflect on these issues and to never give up on the pursuit of peace.
