Rocket Man
Boysetsfire (Elton John) Lyrics

Zero hour, nine a.m.
And I'm gonna be high
As a kite by then
I miss the earth so much
I miss my wife
It's lonely out in space
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
'Til touchdown brings me 'round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Ah, no no no...
I'm a rocket man
Rocket man
Burnin' out his fuse
Up here alone
Mars ain't the kind of place
To raise your kids
In fact, it's cold as hell
And there's no one there to raise them
If you did
And all this science
I don't understand
It's just my job
Five days a week
A Rocket Man
Rocket Man
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
'Til touchdown brings me 'round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Ah, no no no...
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
'Til touchdown brings me 'round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Ah, no no no...
I'm a rocket man
Rocket man
Burnin' out his fuse
Up here alone
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
Long, long, time
Long, long, time
Ah, no, no, no...
Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no...
The song Rocket Man by Elton John tells the story of an astronaut who is leaving his loved ones behind to embark on a space mission. He expresses the excitement and isolation that comes with the journey, recognizing that he will miss his home and his wife dearly, but he also seems prepared for the journey ahead. He acknowledges the importance of his role as a "rocket man," but also the fact that he does not fully understand the science behind it.
The lyrics are a poignant portrayal of the sacrifices that astronauts and their families make and the sense of awe and wonder that comes with space travel. The repeated refrain of "I'm not the man they think I am at home" speaks to the isolation that the singer feels as he embarks on this journey, both physically and emotionally. At the same time, the repetition of "Rocket Man" throughout the song creates a sense of pride and honor in the singer's role as an astronaut.
Overall, Rocket Man is a moving tribute to the bravery and dedication of those who explore the final frontier, as well as a reminder of the importance of love and connection in our lives, no matter how far we may travel.

Greatest cover! Bit faster and with a bit more punch, not too heavy...love it.

There was a licensing dispute between the band, the label, and Elton John's "people" at one point in time, so there are a LOT of copies of "Before The Eulogy" wherein "Rocket Man" has been replaced by "Timothy." They can kiiiinda get away with it, since "Timothy" was a bonus track on "After The Eulogy" anyway, but it is still annoying, yes. It has actually become such that if you buy anything but the vinyl pressing of "Suckerpunch Training" you end up with either "Timothy" or no third track.

Here's what I don't understand: they have a song on their album "Before The Eulogy" called Rocket Man, but it just turns out to be "Timothy." Is that just a lazy mistake?

'@sorenlarrington --the cover plays correctly on my album. Yours must be defective. "Timothy" isn't even on that album. That's an interesting mistake. Wonder what happened. lol
