All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all
But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more
The lyrics of “All My Life” express nostalgia for the past, and a deep appreciation for the present. The singer sings about the many people and places that have been a part of their life, some whom have left, and others who have stayed. Despite the changes that have occurred, the singer still remembers and cherishes each place and person they have come across.
However, there is one person who stands out above the rest. The singer sings, “But of all these friends and lovers, there is no one compares with you.” This person is a love interest who has made a profound impact on the singer’s life, one that is beyond compare. The memories of others pale in comparison when the singer thinks of this love interest.
Overall, the lyrics express a sense of gratitude for the experiences and people that have been a part of the singer’s life, both good and bad. Though they will always hold a special place in the singer's heart, nothing compares to the love they feel presently. The song encourages the listener to embrace each moment in life and to cherish those who matter most.
