And we don't even know what we argue about
Don't even say, I love you no more
'Cause sayin' how we feel is no longer allowed
Some people work things out
And some just don't know how to change
We might watch our whole lives pass us by
Let's don't wait till the water runs dry
We'll make the biggest mistake of our lives
Don't do it, baby
Now they can see the tears in our eyes
But we deny the pain that lies deep in our hearts
Well, maybe that's a pain we can't hide
'Cause everybody knows that we're both torn apart
Why do we hurt each other, why do we push love away
Let's don't wait till the water runs dry
We might watch our whole lives pass us by
Let's don't wait till the water runs dry
We'll make the biggest mistake of our lives
Don't do it, baby
Some people will work things out
And some just don't know how to change
Let's don't wait till the water runs dry
We might watch our whole lives pass us by
Let's don't wait till the water runs dry
We'll make the biggest mistake of our lives
Don't do it, baby
Don't do it, baby, don't do it, baby
In "No Dejemos Que Muera El Amor", Boyz II Men laments the breakdown of a relationship that was once vibrant and loving. The song is sung to a partner who has grown distant and aloof, with no desire to communicate or express their feelings. The singer is afraid that if they let this behavior continue, they will reach a point of no return and lose the love they both once shared.
The first stanza sets the stage for the concern that the relationship is starting to fade away. They no longer talk and they have lost the ability to communicate effectively. They do not even express their love to each other. The second stanza acknowledges that some relationships can be worked out, while others don't know how to change. The chorus implores the partner to not wait until it’s too late, to not let the relationship die before trying to save it. If they do, they will have made the biggest mistake of their lives.
The bridge is where the desperation of the situation is truly felt. The two are tearing each other apart despite still feeling love for one another. They cannot hide the fact that they are both in tremendous pain. The singer begs to know why they hurt each other, why they are pushing love away. This leads to another chorus where the singer begs their partner not to make the mistake of letting their love wither away, climaxing in a repeat of the phrase "don't do it, baby" in a final plea to rescue the relationship.
