Haili… Read Full Bio ↴Buttonpusha & Oddsequence are BP & ODDS: tha boom bap novelists.
Hailing from Long Beach, CA, the Producer/MC duo upholds tradition by "sticking to the formula" and providing
dope beats, rhymes, and cuts with no compromise to listeners in search of the "new crack provocative".
A classically futuristic sound placing much emphasis on beats and rhymes with substance; bringing back the boom
bap to Hiphop. Just how you like it.
Although exploring new heights and dimensions in sound is important to the southern Cali natives,
sticking to the formula is what they do best and the sound produced is high quality hiphop music from the soul.
The duo is a combination of two individuals: a DJ/producer with an exact vision of sound, built by years of digging
and MPC mastery; and an underground veteran MC built by years of ciphering, writing, recording, and
performing with the Jupitersciples (a Los Angeles underground favorite circa 1999-2005).
Oddsequence was also a member of a group called YBB with fellow Jupitersciples MC, Cyclopean Eye.
YBB released their full-length album entitled "Heartbeats" in 2007. Shortly after this release and learning that
YBB and Jupitersciples would not continue, Odds and BP linked to work on a song entitled "Rockin yo World".
The song was never released, but the duo was born. BP and ODDS began collaborating in the summer of 2007, in BP's
studio in his parents' home in Cerritos, CA. Their mutual drive and dedication to hiphop conceptualized
"the HI'S AND LO'S EP". While recording the EP, a new addition was made to their creative process which helped
solidify the boom bap novelists' sound. The Bassment in Long Beach, CA became the new inspiration and home for the
crew. They completed the EP later that year and released it independently in November of 2008 with the help of
Bloodbath clothing and Beatswapmeet. The release was well-approved by hiphoppers, beat-heads, tastemakers, DJs, MC's,
graffiti writers, and BBoys alike. BP & ODDS made appearances and were well-received on radio shows like Mike
Nardone's "We Came From Beyond" and Earthbound Radio in San Diego. "The HI'S AND LO'S EP" continues to make noise.
Currently, BP & ODDS are wrapping up their debut full-length entitled "The Medium" which is set to feature some
dope collaborations with some serious MCs. Stay tuned for the return of the boom bap novelists late this summer.
DOPE BEATS, RHYMES, AND CUTS is the mission statement.

They forgot your name forgot you were around
Alone in your room the lights are flashing on and off and on on and off and on on and off and on
You want that dream again the one that's black and white and makes you feel at home
Long distance calls wishing once you'd just pick up the phone
This place gets so cold I'm getting used to it
Tired of pretend I just want to feel it
I don't want to know the reason
I don't want to know the reason why
I don't want to know the reason
I don't want to know the reason
I don't want to know the reason why
Driving around our house looks so different now
We break in just to see and then I feel so small
The roads are icy now but there's no stopping me
And heavy are the hands so I just let them fall
I don't want to know the reason
I don't want to know the reason
I don't want to know the reason why
I don't want to know the reason
I don't want to know the reason
I don't want to know the reason why
I don't want to know the reason
I don't want to know the reason
I don't want to know the reason why
I don't want to know the reason
I don't want to know the reason
I don't want to know the reason why
I don't want to know the reason
I don't want to know the reason
I don't want to know the reason why
I don't want to know the reason
I don't want to know the reason
I don't want to know the reason why
There's a big plan everyone's in on
The lyrics to "The Plan" by Bp & Odds express themes of isolation, disillusionment, and a desire for escape. The opening lines, "There's a big plan everyone's in on / They forgot your name forgot you were around," convey a sense of alienation and exclusion from the rest of society, as if the singer is living on the fringes of a world that doesn't value their existence. The repetition of the phrase "on and off and on" followed by the yearning for a comforting dream suggests a struggle with insomnia or mental health issues, and the inability to find solace in everyday life.
The later lines in the song shift to a more explicit sense of rebellion or empowerment, with the singer breaking into a house and feeling "so small" in comparison to their surroundings. The metaphor of "heavy hands" falling suggests a physical manifestation of the burdensome weight of societal norms, as the singer seeks to break free from these constraints. The repeated refrain of "I don't want to know the reason why" suggests a willful rejection of the justifications for societal norms, an embrace of a mindset of "ignorance is bliss" in order to fight back against the feelings of isolation and exclusion.
Overall, "The Plan" is a powerful and emotionally resonant song that speaks to the struggles of those who feel left behind by society at large, and the desire to escape into a world of one's own making.
