Brothers Zac… Read Full Bio ↴Br'er Rabbit has now changed their name to Wild Rabbit.
Brothers Zach and Nathan Hamer have been playing music and reading each other's minds since their earliest days running around the wooded areas of their family's farm at the farthest Northwest corner of the U.S. Meanwhile, on the other side of the same small town, Miranda Zickler was playing Radiohead and Jackson 5 covers at her high school’s lunchtime concerts. It wasn't till they had all spent varying lengths of time in New York City (Zach and Nathan for filmmaking and an English degree, respectively, and Miranda for musical theatre and busking on the L train subway platform) that they ended up in the same diner in Union Square and decided to start making music together. They moved back to the Northwest in the summer of 2012, and have since dedicated their lives wholly to playing, writing, touring, and stomping. With the addition of Jillian Walker on cello at the end of 2013, the group has rounded out into a very unique breed of string band.
Combining each member's unique influences ranging from Beethoven to Beirut, blending three distinct vocal styles, and adding copious amounts of foot-stomping, Br'er Rabbit has discovered a sound and a presence that's at once original and familiar, appealing to audiences of all generations & genres. After a breakthrough performance at the 2013 Northwest Folklife Festival garnering press in noted indie roots publication No Depression and in the Seattle Times, the band made a prominent name for itself in the Northwest and has been quickly picking up momentum since then, opening for popular indie bands like Paper Bird, Ha Ha Tonka, Shook Twins, and The Family Crest.
Voted Best Band in Bellingham in 2013 (Cascadia Weekly), the group combines their passion for filmmaking with their passion for music in videos they call Wayward Sessions, an ongoing series of live outdoor performances shot along their tours and travels. They are also deeply rooted in charity efforts, particularly in the area of animal advocacy. Having released an EP of basement recordings, recorded a session at Daytrotter Studio in Rock Island, IL, completed several national tours, and run a successful Kickstarter campaign, the band recently recorded their first full-length studio album at the famed Bear Creek Studio in Woodinville, WA (Fleet Foxes, The Lumineers, Brandi Carlile) and, fittingly, had it mastered by Greg Calbi in New York City (Paul Simon, Bon Iver, John Lennon, Sara Bareilles, Bob Dylan). The Wild North is now available on iTunes, Spotify, and at www.wildrabbitmusic.com.
Roller
Br'er Rabbit Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
He got jewels in his eyes
He's a roller, roller
Farther than the other men can see
But that's alright, he'll stick by me
He workin' late night
Got that fire buggin', smokin'
Whippin' up the liquors that they bring
But that's alright, within his ring
And for a while now I've been lost
And for a while now I've been tossed aside
But I'm just fine
Too many people in my head
And they keep crowdin' up my motor, motor
Messin' up the wording as I sing
But that's alright, I'll wait 'til spring
They keep on stoppin' me
My clickin' heels stoppin' on the pavement, pavement
Sendin' out the sparkings as I sheen
The black tar screech upon my wing
And for a while now I've been lost
And for a while now I've been tossed aside
But I'm just fine
And for a while now I've been lost
And for a while now I've been tossed aside
But I'm just fine
And for a while now I've been lost
And for a while now I've been tossed aside
But I'm just fine
The song "Roller" by Br'er Rabbit tells the story of a woman who is lost and has too many thoughts crowding up her mind. However, a man comes into her life who is a "roller," someone who is successful and confident in what he does. He has jewels in his eyes and is able to see farther than the other men. He works late at night, creating and mixing liquor, which he loves to do. Despite her troubles, the woman finds solace in the man, who is willing to stick by her no matter what.
The lyrics suggest that the woman has been struggling for some time, feeling lost and tossed aside. She has too many people in her head, which is causing her to mess up her wording while singing. However, she is willing to wait until spring to sort everything out. The woman is aware that her clicking heels are stopping on the pavement, sending out sparkings, but she takes pride in her wing, which is being screeched upon by the black tar.
"Roller" is a song that celebrates individuality, even in the face of uncertainty and chaos. The woman in the song is lost and thrown aside, but she is also "just fine." The song suggests that everyone has their own struggles and that it's okay to feel lost and overwhelmed at times. The man who is the "roller" reminds us that there is always someone who can inspire and uplift us, no matter how uncertain things may seem.

@Holla Holla Dolla Dolla It's cel animation actually; cel shading is when CGI animation gets, well, shaded to look like traditional one.
