Their first album, Native Speaker (2011), has received mostly praise from critics, remarkable for its innovative melodies and Standell-Preston's "dynamic" vocals.
Keyboardist Katie Lee left the group during the recording of their 2013 album, Flourish // Perish. Raphaelle Standell-Preston is also the vocal half of Blue Hawaii.
The 30th of April 2015 they released 'Deep In The Iris', their third album.

In my ego's bed
Fall
In my lake of a head
Sit on amends
Sit on amends
Nod the head
Caring just to pretend
Only
In my ego's bed
Never a friend
In my ego's bed
Purely mislead
Though the mind can only know it
Know the softness that it's told
It is a heart that surely shows it
Shows the softness the mind knows
While the body tries to hold it
Hold the softness the heart shows
While the soul is here to mold it
Mold the softness of all knowns
We have come so far
Don't throw this
(Body tries to hold it) we have come so far
Don't throw this
We have come so far
Don't throw this
(Hold the softness the heart shows) we have come so far
Don't throw this
We have come so far
Don't throw this

The lyrics to Braids's song Amends seem to be about a struggle with ego, guilt, and a desire to make things right. The first verse describes falling down again in the singer's ego's bed and in their head, metaphorically a lake. The second verse, "Sit on amends, tense the lip, nod the head, caring just to pretend," suggests a false apology or pretense of caring about making things right instead of truly taking responsibility for the harm caused. The repetition of "in my ego's bed" emphasizes the self-centeredness and lack of concern for others.
The rest of the song continues to explore the themes of the mind and heart, with the chorus urging the listener not to "throw away" the progress made and to hold onto the "softness" of the heart that the mind may struggle to understand. The repetition of "we have come so far, don't throw this" seems to be a reminder to stay committed to self-improvement and to making things right.
Overall, the song seems to be a reflection on the difficulty of reconciling with oneself and others and the importance of genuine effort towards change.

Damn, I haven’t heard this song since the album came out, I drum along with “In Kind” on a daily basis, because that is one of the sickest drum tunes to come out of that whole sphere of music in a while, but I never really listen to Braids other than the handful of tunes from the first album of theirs that I play.
Amends is still a catchy and hypnotic tune. Kinda reminds me of that “Leisure Problems” guy, the Nic Jar type-a-jams.
