You Won¡¯t Know
Brand New Lyrics

Hey hey hey! Mr. Hangman
Go get your rope

Your daughters weren't careful,
I fear that I am a slippery slope
Now even if I lay my head down at night
After a day I got perfectly right
She won't know
She won't know
She won't know

So pray, little Kay, love's God on a good day.
And you can't blame your mother,
She's trying not to see you as her worst mistake
And I wish that I could tell you right now, that I love you
But it looks like I won't be around
So you won't know

You won't know
You won't know
You won't know

So believe in me,
Believe that you think I'll let you down
Well I won't
They can fire everything they've got
And when you think I'm sunk
I will float on and on
I have burned the bush that covered my light
And now I'm scared I won't burn that bright

But you won't know
You won't know
You won't know

You're never going to feel as full as you felt
So let's go outside and we'll play William Tell
Take your time drawing your bead
I'll stand as still as you need
'Cause you're so good at talking smack,
You heart attack
But you're the apple of my eye anyway

My smiling face, it's on your plate, it's on a silver plate

So they say,
They say in heaven
There's no husbands and wives
On the day that I show up
They'll be completely out
Of their forgiveness supplies
And I cant use the telephone
To tell you that I'm dead and gone
So you won't know

You won't know

You won't know
You won't know

@rem0204

the singer was acused of having sex with minors during tours. maybe I'm looking too much into it, but tbh, scarily enough, it fits. through the album there is a recurring theme, a kind of obsession with guilt about past mistakes, it fits with that too. idk.
bare with me, english is not my mother tongue.

"you go get your rope / your daughters weren't careful"
why would you adress their father? maybe because they aren't adults, and it's their father who should be looking out for their safe. he either go for the rope to: a. kill himself, or, b. kill the man who did that to their daughters (but I think is a).

"she won't know"
she doesn't really know the dimensions of what she is doing. he, as an adult, does.

"and I wish that I could tell you right now, I love you / but it looks like I won't be around"
maybe he has developed some strong feelings for the girl, but telling her he loves her will make things worst, as he "won't be around". this, plus the line cited above, may be indicating that he knows the kind of damage he is leaving on the girl. maybe she is thinking about a relationship or something.

the third verse (is that the term?) escapes me completely.

"so let's go outside and we'll play "William Tell" "
he is referring to that game where there is an apple on the top of the head on someone and another one shoots. she's the apple, so: dating her is something dangerous. why? she won't know (he certainly does)

well, to me is very obvious. and I'm kind of outraged by it. it is disgusting in a certain way. but I understand that art is for this, to explore our own burdens and all that. it is a great song in the end.

@herukadakini5042

Youve missed the whole point. The title isnt referring to objective beings that are named God and Devil.
God is referring to a persons Subjective experience of the profound mystery that is our existence. And Devil is referencing the Subjective experience of Ego, our conceptually overlaid personality and thinking mind.

It's a battle between seeing the beauty and deeply peaceful ultimate Emptiness beyond language thought and concept, the reality only available to us when we drop our thinking and rest in the flow of reality. The Great Silence, beyond our labels and imputations.

An understanding and realization of which leads to the dropping away of a Suffering Personal Ego (Devil) that plants its false flag of existence on its Illusory Pattern Based feedback loop of imitation Experience.

Despite wanting to reduce our sentience to the status of a neuron packed Potato, and denying any mental phenomena in the name of Objectivity, your misguided Atheistic and Nihilistic reductionist View of reality cant possibly dismiss the reality that underlies our Conventional World. The reality that is always right there, steadily licking its chops, just waiting to make a fool of You and Your Plans.

But youre being a shortsighted small minded Child. Like the rest of the Human race seems to be evolving into, an inverted, totally perverted Materialist worshipping intelligent potato.
