I'm absolutely positive they find out everything they possibly can in addition to what the models have to list on their applications & contracts. Even if she hadn't told a soul that her dad died they would already know (& ask her about it). They can search public records, scour social meda... don't underestimate monsters with money who are looking to make drama (to make even more money). It's f*cked up.

Of course, they didn't make THAT a thing per her request, but they sure as hell used it against her for drama and editing. These producers are honestly evil people.

I wish people who go on these shows stopped talking about death, what they are afraid of and so on because they must know that this will be used against them. I'd just say my most traumatic experience was meeting a cat that pissed on me and I'm afraid of bunnies. I would say all my relatives are alive even my great great great great great parents. And the only thing that I lost was a pink flower that I had in my room. And that it died because I over watered it.

Lenox has said recently that she wasn't really crying about the photoshoot, she was reminded of her dad who died shortly before the show.
It would've been fine for her to cry about the shoot, but I think it's wrong of them to make it seem like it was all about the competition when it was a lot more personal.

@Jani El yeah I mean they would lock girls into limos for long periods, intentionally get them drunk, deprive them of bathrooms in order to get some of those "crazy limo" scenes, it's not really surprising that the producers were using other info to break them down.

It's really interesting when a contestants totally gets what's happening and starts speaking in codes messages and being super vague when talking to their families on the phone. I assumed that it was cause they didn't want it on tv, but now I wonder if they didn't want the producers to know....

Tyra, in an interview LAST YEAR, said she wanted to make ANTM have more diversity and be more inclusive in the industry but whenever someone comes on her show and doesn't fit the perfect ideal of what a model is/should be already, they get kicked out, or are just refused any kind of support or assistance.
She didn't sound apologetic either (to me) it's honestly so hard to see these girls struggle.

Jessica is totally right that whenever a guest photographer or judge was too nice or supportive to the models, they wouldn't come back for subsequent seasons.

Tyra needed to be surrounded by awful, mean people so that she could pretend to be the kind, sympathetic one and talk with them about hard it was, as if she wasn't the one designing this stuff and pulling the production strings the entire time.

Lenox said on TikTok that the crying scene was actually cut from a different spot. It was actually after the shoot and it happened because the producers had asked her about her father who had recently passed and she hadnt emotionally dealt with it yet or told anyone in the house about it and production just out of the blue decided to ask her about it in their "after shoot wrap up" interview. When they did she got upset and stormed off and that scene where they're asking if she is ok and is crying was the result. She wasn't crying because of the shoot

Making the models have less frames as punishment was always weird to me. It feels more like a punishment for the photographers than the models who have less chances to direct and get a better picture.

Important: That rain in Spain phrase was historically used as a practice phrase to get folks to lose their "low class" accent to sound more like a high class Londoner. The cultural implications of someone telling that young black woman to use that phrase to learn to speak more like a posh white person is mind blowing. Also, when Tyra was trying to get the other woman to say it, Tyra didn't even say the bloody sentence right. For those wondering, the cultural reference is the movie My Fair Lady and true phrase is, "The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain", not FALLS mainly. That's a lot of arrogance coming from someone who can't even get an iconic phrase right.

I don’t know… while yes in My Fair Lady this tongue twister is used in order to make the protagonist loose her cockney accent. I think today and in this particular example it’s used to teach people to enunciate rather than pick up or loose an accent.

The amount of pain she had to go through, the fact she was reminded constantly during that week how Tyra gave her such a low score and how the show pretty much took advantage of her. The show's always been abusive, but this was too much, from forcing Jaeda to kiss a racist model, pretty much breaking Kelle's and Ann's (Cycle 3) confidence to this... The reason why I stopped watching any of the competition shows is because they always create all that drama. Judges are mean. In some shows they have people who aren't great and who get made fun of.

I really enjoy watching you on YouTube commenting on old ANTM episodes, roasting production, photographers, judges, everyone who is being terrible. You tell them!

Even as a kid who didn't understand how toxic and abusive the show really was, I remember talking with my sister about how cool it would be for a show like ANTM except it's actually about teaching the girls how to model and helping them to grow. Even back then, I knew this show was purely for entertainment and had nothing to do with the actual industry.

I'm really loving the analysis of these episodes, as someone who watched the show as a kid it's made me realized the many things wrong in this show;
Personally I feel Tyra giving Lenox a 1 in the previous episode and suddenly a 10 in this photoshoot seems like manipulation.
Because it would be like "wow Tyra gave her tough criticism and look how it paid off!"

It makes Tyra's feedback seem warranted, it makes her look good as a role model in a twisted way :/

@Abby Gibbs no they are way to much when you put together a portfolio they are mainly headshots and simple shots so you can book the maximum amount of jobs and show that you're a blank canvas. Most of the models on the show have talked about how they had to rebuild a portfolio from the ground up because the ones from ANTM weren't booking them jobs

I remember rewatching all of ANTM in quarantine and I couldn’t remember why I stopped at the university cycle when it was originally airing, and I realized it was because of the “fan” votes and comments. I was so angry as a kid that I couldn’t participate and give my say as a dedicated fan, but rewatching it all I could do is laugh at how artificial and strange of an addition they were. I wouldn’t be surprise if all the video comments are the staffs family members lmao
Edit: also the way they tried to make the challenges and votes mathematical??? Making up close percentages for better TV, having models return halfway through (to eliminate some the same/next episode), it stopped being a show about modeling after the 2nd cycle.

After her humiliation in the last contest, I am glad she made a comeback.

I relate to Lennox cause crying is like my number one way of showing pretty much any emotion (I'm a big happy-cryer 😆), and I got shamed for that as a kid. So the first times I allowed myself to cry in front of people, it felt horrible and weird and inappropriate. People often react weirdly to tears as well, so it takes a while to rewired yourself to not feel overwhelmed by other peoples reactions to your own display of big emotions 😕

I just want to say, I found your channel about a year ago and I love it so much. The content is fun to watch, but I love it because of your personality. I can tell how genuine of a person you are by how you react to the different scenes. You seem like such an empathetic person. When the girls cry or are upset I can see genuine emotion and sadness in your face like you are feeling what they are and thats a rare thing to find. Eh....it's actually pretty hard to get photographers if you're a new model or not getting booked often.ive seen some videos on how this creates a lot of vulnerabilities for those models because a lot of photographers will prey on them because they know they're desperate for camera time. So I can sort of see how artificially removing shots for a photoshoot could recreate the conditions of how less popular models get less opportunities to prove themselves.

I just wish the show had spent more time telling the audience about these kind of scams and practices and how to protect themselves and make it better, instead of gleefully perpetuating the systemic abuses of the industry.

They called the video at 15:30 an "incomplete whip" because he didn't tilt his head back farther. I think the half whip was a better choice. Without any further head adjustments, he was able to rotate his head so that his eyes were a direct straight line to the audience. If he had thrown his head farther back, the eyeline would not have been a direct straight line and the "piercing" quality would have been minimized. (I hope that makes sense.)

I couldn't agree and would also like to point out that they did not properly adhere these wigs to the men ( as a hair stylist) And they probably didn't feel like it was secure enough to do the" full flip" Tyra wanted them to do. And his in particular was very very loose and if he had done the full flip it would have come off absolutely.

As sad as these videos are, they are truly eye opening and helpful! I truly get so excited when you post a new video, especially the ANTM series! Also as annoying as Yu Tsai can be, his response to the crying was amazing and how it should be handled unlike previous episodes where they get angry at the models for showing emotion!

Your comment about "It's okay to cry" was lovely. In fact crying is healthy and good for you. It releases serotonin and dopamine which treat physical and emotional pain. (They're actually the common ingredients in most anti-anxiety/depression medications as well as chronic pain prevention medication such as migraine.) It's a way your body uses to help purge and then re-stabilize itself.

This is also why many people describe having an extreme sense of calm or even euphoria after a "breakthrough" of tears.

Jessica can you react to cycle 22 episode 13? Where they made Nyle Demarco who is deaf do a photo shoot in the pitch dark, effectively making him blind and deaf. It was so gross watching them use his deafness against him like that.

I remember hearing at this point in the show, the judges were instructed to say one positive and one negative about everyone, so that the producers could choose which narrative they wanted to go with. Pretty depressing.

Idk what season it is but there was a model who was crying and told Mr Jay she was sexually assaulted at 11 and he wrote her off and told her she should just pull through and not let it get her sent home. I’m going to look it up Jessica you should react to that one.- It was Cycle 15 Kayla cries because she doesn’t want to kiss a stranger and admits this on camera.

The way that push and pull with all these contestants by pushing them to lows and then being nice is like weird gaslighting technique to make people think that they need trauma or pain to succeed. I'm sure it's common in the industry but so strange to see people try to replicate that on purpose, week after week. Definitely what they did with Lenox by saying if she gets an epic takedown (gets a 1) that is what helped her get a 10 this week.... when really it's just not being forced to model with someone she hates, and who isn't good at their job.

I find it funny that Tyra requests, "The rain in Spain falls mainly in the plain" which is an old exercise for pronunciation and articulation when they said Raelia's problem was speaking too fast. It's like telling somebody to jump up and down to help them walk more slowly.

I love your antm reaction videos and I actually would like to recommend one episode where Yu Tsai had his first appearance as a photographer and he was so rude to one of the contestants and to the creative director who was Johnny Wujek at the time. It's cycle 20 episode 15, the Guess photoshoot. 🙂✌️

Yu Tsai was such a sweet heart. If we get to panel and Tyra says "Yu Tsai said you were difficult" or anything like that I will be so pissed. I think everyone can agree at this point that Tyra is not the person we thought she was once upon a time. As a photographer, do you ever recognize some of the names on these shoots?

I'll bet you anything they mentioned something to the photographer but didn't tell him she had specifically asked for it to not be brought up during shooting. That's probably why he was so nice to her - you can sometimes see Mr. Jay do the same thing where it hits him that this is real life and these are real girls sobbing over real stuff. (Didn't stop him from coming back season after season though .....)

In connection to one of my last comments about me voting in one of these (i.e. having seen the photos and scored them before the season aired), I seriously thought Tyra scoring Lenox a "1" the week before was nothing but scripted.

I vividly remember scoring Lenox a "10" this week.

It’s interesting because the first season Tyra was a different person. More kind. It’s like she evolved in a bad way and the shoots became more ridiculous.
Also, as a former dancer there’s a way to hair flip without killing your neck. It takes training though.

ANTM was my ultimate guilty pleasure for ages. Last month, I bought two of my favourite seasons and wow, not easy to watch anymore. I was constantly cringing at the judges cruel comments. Really surprised me how much bullying went on in the show from the judges. You expect it from the contestants but it's another level coming from grown adults who should know better.

I feel like some of the challenges are geared towards challenging photo shoots. Maybe sometimes the model doesn't feel great or isn't confident in the shoot, and these types of challenges are meant to desensitize the model from those feelings. Tyra treats it like a Highschool Drama Club that she runs, and she treats her artists horribly, she groups these people to stand around waiting for Tyra and her Cheerlead Squad to rip each model apart individually infront of eachother like it's some Highschool Cheerleading Hazing Party, But I do think there may be a reason for making them dress funny or maybe setting them up with crummy looking shoots. At least I hope it's a desensitizing ritual and not a hazing one.

Yu Tsai was so sweet and nice to her! He didn't tell her to suck it up or that she was being unprofessional. He was telling her tears weren't a sign of weakness and that it was okay to cry. That was so sweet! I'm guessing they decided not to let him come back to the show since he was actually a decent human being.

Yu Tsai is so ironic. Here in ANTM he told a crying model that “And if you need a good cry, have a good cry.” Meanwhile in AsNTM, he once told a model that “There is no crying like a baby in modeling,” but it was actually because of the model’s bad attitude though....

I have to say that I love love love you are a pokemon nerd. You are a seriously sweet, beautiful, nerdy chicka and I love it. And yeah..these poor aspiring models are being essentially conditioned for abuse. But your commentary makes it watchable. Keep being you girl, because you're just an awesome person.

The people in this show are literally abusive. This is exactly the pattern, that my parents used. Very sadistic but when they realise they‘ve gone too far and could get in trouble, they suddenly become incredibly kind and generous. This is when you believe, they have a good side to them, that they hide. But in reality it’s very self-centred
