Black and Blue
Brand New Sin Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Hard to tell yourself sometimes its just me
Hard to believe ourselves when its all inside
Hard to tell yourself when your full of pride
I know you don't believe it
Damnation's almost through
I've almost lost what's all me
We're black and blue
Hard to push away all your fears
Hard to recapture all those years
Hard to see with blinders on
I don't care no cause now I'm gone
I know you don't believe it
Damnation's almost through
I've almost lost what's all me
We've battled hard
We're black and blue
The lyrics of Brand New Sin's Black and Blue express the difficulty of believing in oneself, overcoming fear and pride, and moving on after many years have passed. The song starts by outlining just how hard it can be to have faith in something that is invisible or intangible. It can be challenging to admit to ourselves that our struggles are internal, and it's even more complicated to come to terms with that when we are full of pride. The singer is aware that the listener might not believe what they are saying, but they speak with conviction, telling them that damnation is almost over.
As the song progresses, the chorus kicks in, and it tells the story of two people who have been through the wringer. They have fought hard, and as a result of their struggles, they have been left black and blue. Nonetheless, the singer is resolute and wants to move on from the pain. They explain how challenging it is to let go of all of the pain and fear that has built up over time. It can be nearly impossible to recapture all of the years that were lost because of the agony.
Overall, the lyrics are exceptionally poignant, and they paint a picture of two people who have been beaten down but are still determined to come out on top.

Far beyond us
I remember the day i bought the "tequila" album. Didn't know the band
back in this time, i actually found it in a pawnshop in 2008 in my city
(Aix en Provence, France).
Got it for 1buck, so i was thinking that even
if it sucks, it wouldn't be a big loss of money.
Then i listened to it...9 years laters i'm still listening!
Thank you for the great music!
A huge fan, from France.

FUNERAL BILL II
One of the MOST UNDERRATED American band to come out in the last 20 years. I've seen them live and even got to know the guys over the past 14-15 years, such great guys!! I wish Joe and Slider got the original band back together, they were an unstoppable force for sure!! I even got to sing "My World" live on stage with them in 2005, Joe and the crowd pulled me (and my wheelchair) up on stage for the tune!! GREAT guys!!
